Ah, I hate this shit. Add on top of that audio processing fun from ADHD and it is annoying as fuck. lol
Let’s put this in the idea fridge and triangle back later.

All I can think when I see this emoticon is what I will probably reproduce poorly:

It ruined that emotion forever. Hopefully I have shared the pain. :)
My spouse has a host of health issues, including vision. We went to see a specialist once and I wasn’t understanding what he meant when he referred to something in her eye as “jelly.” So I asked him to explain. I finally gave up after about the fifth or sixth time he attempted with increasingly obvious irritation to explain using some variation of the same “it’s the jelly” phrase - completely not getting that he needed to explain what “the jelly” was.
Sometimes it’s not you, but them.
I think what your wife is saying is that she wants to convince you that she wants a threesome with you and an ophthalmologist. She wants to bring him into the bedroom, and then handcuff you to a chair, and oh no! You can’t do anything from the chair but watch! Now he’s spreading peanut butter on her eye while you lick it off, and talking about the jelly. As you already know, the difference between the jelly and the jam, is he’s going to take the jelly, and put it on her eye. He’s going to take his dick, and jam it up her ass.
Also, your wife is maybe absolutely leaving you for someone who knows all about the jelly and the jam.
Like… vitreous humour? (If you want to go the other way… eye filling?)
Technically, their comment was probably vitreous humour. tee hee hee
You know, the jelly!
wtf is that even 🤣
I wish I knew. 🤷♀️
The eye is full of fluid like a water balloon, so maybe he was talking about all of that fluid (“jelly”) in general? Not saying he did a good job explaining.
I find that saying something like, “My ears seem to be moving faster than my brain today. Can we try this another time?” is a good way to indicate you’re interested in learning what they’re saying while acknowledging you’re having a hard time comprehending it at that moment.
Most people understand that our brains shut off sometimes; “the lights are on, but nobody’s home.” Most people also know good and well when someone doesn’t understand something. Acknowledging these human traits may be uncomfortable, but it’s better than trying to lie to someone who knows better.
That’s better. I usually go with, “I just pooped my pants, can we circle back?”
Also auditory processing disorder
I have to explain this one a lot when I go, “What? Oh, [answers question]” lol
yes. half the time I have no idea what my manager is saying to me. she will mumbling to herself and then add me to her conversation.
this me when puerto ricans explain stuff quickly in spanish to me
(I live in puerto rico as a transplant)
How did your transition to a plant work? (Sorry, I could not resist.)
If plants are normally referred to as “it” and transplant now means transitioning to a plant, would this now be an acceptable time to refer to someone trans as “it”? [/riskyjoke]
lolololol touché
Me every time someone tries to explain crypto.
For the most common type: It’s like an infinite one dimensional puzzle where you can attach any piece for a bit (that’s where the data goes), but then after each one of those you need to find a really specific piece that fits, which is so hard to find that it’s unlikely that two people could ever do it. When someone randomly finds it, the puzzle can continue.
But where’s the value in that?
The value is that crypto allows you to purchase drugs on the Internet
Cash allows me to purchase drugs from a shady dude who I don’t like, but I know he won’t fuck me over.
Sounds to me like you understand crypto just fine. You can see that there’s no value, and therefore a scam. You’ve got this!
I’m surprised (but pleased) that this comment has no downvotes.
If anyone ever sets up crypto for something it’s actually good for, I’ll support it. But until such time…
It’s always felt like a scam to me, but I can’t even count the amount of people who have scoffed or laughed at me for saying so.
There are two pitches to crypto: it’s an investment and it’s gonna be the new default currency.
-
Is plain wrong, it’s a gamble. The trading value of crypto is erratic and unpredictable. Anyone trying to claim otherwise is a scammer.
-
Cool, I’ll wait until then.
-
It is for this reason, I always say “I’m surrounded by morons. Morons everywhere. Far as the eye can see…”
Talking about those who laugh at you for saying it’s a scam. Check back with them in 5 years, and ask them how much money they’ve profited from crypto. Just don’t be surprised when they become hypocrites, and tell you to shut up about those scams.
Well you can store any information in the data part, and given how hard it is to find a matching piece, it works as a reliable proof without having to trust any one person or company. So for example a criminal who can’t trust regular banks can write “I owe Big Tony 100 schmeckles” and other criminals know it’s genuine, so Big Tony can use those schmeckles to get a gun from Fat Fred, and in return writes “I owe Fat Fred 10 schmeckles”. Think of it as a way to track favors online without anyone being able to say someone made it up.
Now how does one convert between these made up schmeckles into other existing currency? Well, same as any central bank. As long as someone believes that favors to or from Big Tony or Fat fred are worth something, they will give dollars or euros or whatever to someone who already has one, and they can then use those as arcade tokens to e.g. buy drugs or hitmen or other things conventional currency trustees don’t approve of.
So value is directly dependant on the perceived utility of the people who agree to use it, and indirectly on those who then bet on how much utility it will have in the future, buying or selling schmeckles when it looks like Fat Fred’s gonna get an offer he can’t refuse. And that changes the scarcity of schmeckles on its own, which affects their perceived value too.
The thing about money is that it only has value because we collectively agree that it does. If you have a dollar or a euro or a yuan, it’s valuable literally only because other people will give you stuff for it. There’s not really anything special about it otherwise, it’s just really useful to have some way of trading things in easily-transferable numbers
Crypto is theoretically the same in terms of what makes it valuable, except for that far fewer people agree that it is valuable and there’s much less agreement on how valuable it is amongst those who do
The money is backed by the government producing it though. Crypto is backed by opinion at best.
If you want to be as far as possible to crypto (why would you? I’m just being conversational and slightly contrarian for fun - I hate crypto in general), you could argue that money is largely backed by the opinions of people about the governments claiming to back the currency.
Even with that, though, I’ll deal in currnecy any day of the week.
Especially since most people buying crypto view it as a get-rich investment, not as currency. So even at best, it’s like a super-volatile stupid gold or something. And at least gold has some inherent value.
Lemmites when you try and explain that incest is a bad thing.
Go on then, explain why it’s bad.
(Please, the wrongness makes it hotter)
That thread was wild.
You need to hang out in different parts of lemmy, anywhere except wherever the fuck you’re currently going
