They really should’ve just ported the WP keyboard over to android, it’s still hands down the best smartphone keyboard ever.

I’m assuming this is referring to prebuilts? I can’t imagine this to be the case for DIY set ups.
x86 is far too ingrained for that to happen. Even if it takes over on the consumer side of things, enterprise will still be stuck on x86 and you know how difficult it is to get them to change. The odds of it dying is exceedingly low.
Their so called written from scratch Harmony OS is just forked Android.
As long as they still let me reorder and change it to how it is right now, sure. I’m really dislike the fisher price UI that Google has been constantly moving towards.
I mean you’re not wrong but it’s way too early for that. If devices with high power limits are already struggling, I really do not see the point of wasting die area on a mobile chip for it. When it does happen in a few years, this chip would already be forgotten. The average person doesn’t keep a phone for more than 3 years at most. Plus, at the pace of technological improvement for tech like this which is in its infancy, the leaps would be significant, by the time it becomes mass market, this chip very likely would not even hit the min spec.
It’s still a high end PC GPU feature which doesn’t have to worry about battery life, it’s way too early for this on mobile chips.
Who’s actually expecting hardware accelerated raytracing on a mobile device?
I personally think Material Expressive looks hideous so I’m real glad they’re taking their time.
Any idea how well this works for anime? The built in Jellyfin option absolutely shits the bed for anime and gives me subtitles from shows that aren’t remotely the same.
There’s a lot of small QOL features across the system and changes to the UI that depending on your taste, either like or dislike. For folding devices, it adds a huge ton of enhancements too that Google hasn’t bothered to add. I personally can’t go back to stock Android because of how lacking it is by comparison. Stuff like:
There’s a lot more stuff here and there but these are just things off the top of my head.
I mean it is clear that it’s an aggregator (? Not sure what the right term is for this) but I can’t even begin to count the number of times I access Radarr instead of Sonarr because I forgot which one is for shows or movies.
Prowlarr is way more intuitive at least.
OneUI definitely does and allows you to swap the position of the back and recent apps button too, not sure if AOSP has that feature yet. That said I’m not a fan of the swipe from the edge to “go back” with gesture navigation that covers the entire edge of the screen. So I have it set up using Samsung’s gesture settings to have it cover only half the screen.
I thought Material 3 was bad then expressive came out…
Is it just me or does this look like a nerf to the contrast of the app?
Having tried it out at the store, it feels like a downgrade in every way in the usability and functionality department. No pen support, what’s the use of such a large screen if you can’t write on it? Wider screen so now it’s actually impossible to use one handed while folded. They got rid of the under display camera on the inner screen which people don’t use often to begin with.
Perfected it by removing features?
After so many years, can’t say I understood the appeal of facial recognition on a phone. You’re already going to be holding it so fingerprint readers still seem superior in every way. You can unlock it before you even take it out of your pocket too.
So glad I got my Fold 6 last year to upgrade from my Fold 3. The removal of pen support is a unnegotiable downgrade for me. Can’t say I’m a fan of the larger screen and thinner profile either, the Fold 3 proved to me that a narrow and thick device is a far more usable device than normal form factors because of how easy it is to hold it. I already find the 6 way too big.
I work with OpenGL ES on Android and Mediatek’s GPU whole great on benchmarks has a ton of issues with specific features. Basic stuff like indirect draw causes numerous VRAM corruption issues which make it an absolute pain to work with.
A quick search online also turns up a lot of users with issues in Fortnite and Cod on mobile on those processors.
