I’ve built several cat trees and scratchers for our cats over the years, but despite my best efforts, they’re always undersized for dusty.

So I put this together yesterday with crap I had in the garage. Honestly, given it was ~3 hours of work, I’m very very pleased with it.

The post has four screws through the base and two L-brackets. The carpet is attached with teeny 1" nails and was a pain in the ASS to attach to the circular base.

I’m most proud of the rope attachment points. I drilled a hole just big enough for the rope to pass through, then put a big brass wood screw next to it in the hole and drove it in. So the thinking is that, to restring it, it’ll just be removing two screws.

Nice work! How has Dusty been finding it? I know that a similar log with rope wrapped around it is the only scratching post my boy has ever shown interest in

Honestly I lucked out, it’s just barely tall enough for him, but he likes to scratch really aggressively, so he loves it

I’ve made scratching ‘pads’ that I mount on the wall and are 1’×3’ and have thin carpet glued to them, but he can’t sink his claws into it, so isn’t interested

Nice rope hole screw tricky thing. I think I’ll make one for myself. Perhaps my cat will like it too.

Thanks, I’ve always had a hard time locking in the tension I’ve worked so hard to get in the rope, and this works quite well and is easy to redo
