Thanks! All told I have five ladies, human and otherwise, who seem to be collaborating to ensure my comfort and well-being. They’re all doing good jobs and I’m grateful towards each one of them.

You know, that’s a very fair point.

I have a Siamese (well, I think; she looks like one but I don’t know anything about cat genetics).
One thing I think is interesting is that, when she came to us, she looked very much like your picture. The older she got, though, the more the dark coloration from her nose migrated and spread.

Now she looks like this. (Please try to ignore my disheveled hair. A recent surgery has reduced my opportunities to shower.)
edit: My wife likes to describe our pets by their apparent flavor. Ripley, shown above, is s’more flavored. Another cat, a striped one another lemming once described as “standard issue cat,” hasn’t been given a flavor. Instead, because she has one white toe, she “stepped in milk.”

I’ve recently had several appointments with a specialist. Most of them required me to show up between 0615 and 0630.
He doesn’t come in until 0800.

What if I accidentally say “this baby can fit so many spywares in it” instead?

Got it - if I ever want to hide a bot I’ll name it “CertainlyADog.”

I don’t entirely disagree with you, but I’ve boiled eggs. I’ve peeled boiled eggs. I’ve never once given boiled eggs an ice bath - I didn’t even know that was a thing until I saw a roommate doing it in my early thirties (though to be fair I didn’t have my first boiled egg until my mid twenties).
I’ve definitely peeled eggs poorly, as shown in the OP, but I’ve also peeled them nearly perfectly with no ice bath. I don’t know if it helps, but it’s not necessary.

Fair enough. Thank you.

I’m not trying to be dismissive or critical of those who use a NAS solution. I’ve never used one myself, so maybe it really is amazing; but from your response it sounds just like an NFS (or perhaps samba) server with a web interface? I did try TrueNAS once and it basically seemed like that, but also with convoluted permissions.
Again, not trying to be dismissive or anything. Just trying to understand.

I’m unclear on the benefit either has one just an NFS server.

I don’t disagree that it was insane!
But no, the reason is that I live in a decently sized old house in a cold area. We’ve dual zone climate control and I’m not sure either heat pump stopped running the whole month. I do run some servers but that’s true year round and most months my power bill is in various parts of triple digits.

… My power bill for February was $1900 …

Couldn’t say - I’ve never had the chance to use it. In fact, I’m not sure I ever had the SysRq key on a keyboard I’ve used.
I have had a Pause/Break key and used to think they were the same thing, but now I’m not so sure.

You just reminded me … Before I really got into IT in my career I was at a job that still had a messenger for the internal staff. I set my status message in it to “Raising Skinny Elephants Is Utterly Boring.”
I got chastised and made to change it, because the message might offend … Skinny elephants, I guess? I never got clarification on that.
(The manager had no clue what it meant.)

Dude, that’s … A reference.
I hope you get to see this one again sometime soon!
Yeah, Ripley used to be kind of a jerk. She’s always been patient with our young kid, though, and has started warming up to me these last few months.
Thank you! I’m on the upswing from the surgery, at least in theory. I’m scheduled to see the surgeon for a follow-up tomorrow and, honestly, if he does nothing but confirm I don’t seem to have an infection, I’ll probably be on my way to feeling fantastic. The surgery was on my spine and I’m still getting accustomed to being able to do things like use stairs without whimpering.
