Oh wow congrats, I’m currently in the struggle of stretching an ab350m to accept a 4600G and failing.
You’re right, you should hit PCIe 3 speeds and it’s weird, but the fact that the drives swap speeds depending on how they’re plugged in points to either drivers or the chipset.
I’m not fully familiar with the overheads associated with all things going on on a chipset, but it’s not unreasonable to think that this workload, plus whatever the chipset has to do (hardware management tasks mostly), as well as the CPU’s other tasks on similar interfaces that might saturate the IO die/controller, would influence this.
B350 isn’t a very fast chipset to begin with, and I’m willing to bet the CPU in such a motherboard isn’t exactly current-gen either. Are you sure you’re even running at PCIe 3.0 speeds too? There are 2.0 only CPUs available for AM4.
It might be that the data to both disks saturates a common link before the second disk reaches full iops capability, and thus the driver then writes at full speed on one disk and at half speed on the other, for twice as long.

While Microsoft and Google merely pretend to like open source but transparently hate it, it is (was) not quite as obvious that red hat wanted to capture the enterprise Linux market wholesale. What red hat has done is terrible for the ecosystem, much more so than Microsoft just throwing out worthless tokens of appreciation.

If you turned off battery optimisations globally, it might still kill it. You specifically have to go into app options and allow it to be always on, as well as allowing all it’s notifications

Imo immutable distros are what’s paving the future. Personally I’m a debian fangirl, but if you want to learn something new then I’d take a look towards these, otherwise you’re essentially just configuring all the things the same ways as before, which is fine but I think we’re moving away from this.
Your laptop will be fine, although it has a Nvidia graphics card so that’s always a dice roll. You probably will have problems with brightness control and sleep mode.
For your privacy goal, honestly just using a properly configured firefox on any Linux is fine. You’re already using linux, and for the rest your browser really shouldn’t leak that much info, so it’s up to the normal avenues of blocking trackers etc.

On fedora and el, nvtop apparently is installed as an appimage. An appimage is just a single executable, that you may delete. You may also delete the .desktop entry from /usr/share.

Because steam is fundamentally a package manager and you wouldn’t install a package manager from flatpak either.
You can find your solution for making steam work on an immutable distro if you want, but the fact of the matter is that using steam on flatpak is not recommended because it is famously broken.
I don’t think they make them anymore but unsurprisingly most are still functionnal.

So fun fact about that I know a bit about Android apps so I tried cracking it myself, and when I couldn’t I looked at the difference between the vanilla app and the cracked one to see how they did it. All the cracked copies I could find were not simply cracked but also had additional code behind some kind of DRM, so I’m gonna go with “please do not install malware as your Android launcher”.
This isnt fear mongering, this is based on actual evidence of said malware being distributed.
It’s a gigabyte ab350m gaming-3 rev 1.0. it boots grub fine but then crashes right after displaying “loading Linux 6.x”, CPU led flashes then dram led stays on, I have to turn it off with the PSU switch.
Either it’s a rev 1.0 bug which is a thing on those motherboards, or the CPU (or igpu) is defective.

I’m currently waiting on support from both the seller and gigabyte but I don’t expect anything out of it, though I’m still yet to test it in a different motherboard.
