19·3 days agoArguably, ActivityPub has its shortcomings. Also, having another protocol similar to ActivityPub creates more competition which drives innovation (and gets people away from corporate-controlled sites like Meta).

I agree. One of my sons doesn’t want to use social media (he tried several and didn’t like any of them). My other son only uses Reddit to find interesting things and information in niche subjects (he rarely interacts with anyone on the platform).

That’s why I started and continued to talk to my two sons about it from a very young age (5 years old). Now they are teenagers and don’t have any online problems.
It’s somewhat funny how most Lemmy mods seem to discuss things on Discord or Matrix, rather than Lemmy (based on the chatter, though I am not a mod here so what do I know, really?).
Most of the time we need real-time chat (Mods on Discord) or real-time secure chat (Admins on Matrix).

They are credited with the creation of the MP3 format so maybe that’s where these supposed lawsuits are coming from?
If you are referencing this article, then he isn’t funding anything. He is willing to consider backing a TikTok like platform that uses the AT Protocol.
