Isn’t that already true for QT apps on a gtk desktop and GTK apps on a QT desktop?

In my experience, GTK apps feel pretty good on Cosmic, and it has support for automatically theming them with your Cosmic theme. QT apps feel out of place, but this is an issue I’ve had on every non-Plasma desktop, because I struggle to get theming to work.

You answered your question of why Wayland exists right after asking it. X sucks. Wayland is a very significant improvement, I’m not sure why you think it’s a lateral move.

Also, X works for some cases, but not all, just lime Wayland. Using multiple refresh rates doesnt work well, HDR has no hope of ever working, and fractional scaling is horrible. Wayland has initial support for HDR and great support for the other two.

Wayland is a protocol used by each desktop that supports it. It often moves slowly because each desktop works together and discusses each change. If valve forked it, they would just have a protocol nobody is using. If people started using it, it would just slow down again for the same reason.

You overestimate the hardware required to run AI.

I’m interested in them finding a way to get AC working, but I really dislike this method of doing so. There are a ton of kernel variations, so this would really only work on specific distros and devices. This becoming standard would likely mean being unable to use optimized kernels, different schedulers, and other kernel modules like the ZFS drivers.

If you need to dual boot, be sure to use separate EFI partitions for windows and Linux, separate drives if possible. Windows has done this far too many times.

When I switched it didn’t even have anything to do with the enshittification of Windows. I just thought it would be cool to try another OS. Pop_OS was really nice to use and this just so happened to be right around the time Proton was getting really good. I think the only game I was playing that didn’t work was Siege, and I ended up preferring using Linux to playing it.

Those people are mostly just a meme, I rarely see people actually doing that anymore, although I’m sure they exist. If you want my personality out of it, spend more time customizing. You can look into optimizations, theming, or delve into window managers if you really want to make it your own. There’s a lot of options.

I personally love my Framework 13. Not sure if the battery life is up to your standard, but the new models are plenty enough for me.

I’ve used Linux all through college and haven’t had any problems. I never had to use Windows only software for my degree, but I can’t really say what you might need. LibreOffice can mess up the formatting of more complex documents, but will normally be fine. If you’re working in a group project and need to use shared docs you can always use Word or Google Docs online.

And that’s how all package managers start. If it gets enough attention and enough people find the new capabilities of the package manager and distro interesting, it will get packages made for it.

What do you mean by won’t work? chsh is not changing the shell of the entire OS, it’s changing your users login shell. Unless you’ve done something to make your login break without bash, this is completely fine. Using chsh is even how the Fish docs recommend setting it as your default.

What Ubuntu did isnt about login shells, they replaced /bin/sh with dash, meaning any scripts that try to use sh will instead use dash.

I never see people recommend Arch any more. New users should research the distro they should use instead of choosing the distribution they’ve heard of the most.

Again, the binaries aren’t from questionable sources. From what I can tell they all come from the official source. The problem is them being unsigned, which is a simple oversight that can be made when something is being written by someone who is not security minded. It is alpha software and this is already actively being discussed.
