I use sftp://files.lan with my Synology rather than SMB as its usually easier when using both Linux client and server and you can set up key authentication. I guess you are using the Nautilus files app with Ubuntu, so you can then drag and pin folders to the list of folders (under Documents, Music etc) on the left.

And don’t worry, Chuck will drop it in a minute and move onto the next shiny thing.

I find curating the collection quite relaxing, so I agree there. I have all the automation set up for new media that’s not released yet, but the other main benefit I get is using it as a search interface for multiple public and private trackers without having to visit any external websites.

With this many PCs, just for the fun of it I’d set them up as Kubernetes or Proxmox, passing maximum storage to one of the guests as a NAS. Then your hardware is pretty flexible for the future.

A 10,000 song library can be smaller than a AAA game install these days. The point of a large library is not necessarily to listen to it all, but can be to just listen to what you want when you want. I mean, do what you like, but I work from home full time and listen to music for most of it so it suits me.
