Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Started hosting my own Nextcloud and its awesome!English
3·11 months agoI agree about separating the services. In the past I had problems upgrading owncloud/nextcloud with too many plugins. It was difficult to keep all data between the versions.
Now I’m using Baikal for calendar/contacts, Silverbullet for notes and Linkding for bookmarks.
Currently I use these services by VPN only, so file sharing isn’t really useful. I could reach all my files there by SMB and I don’t dare to provide my services openly. For that alone Nextcloud was great, but I don’t trust my setup enough to share it with the world again.

5·1 year agoI use it for a few years now and it’s lightweight and useful. Also my markdown notes are in real folders without much database overhead.
A few things I miss (and would like to see added in form of plugins to keep the pure style):- A real folder navigator additionally to the open pages dialogue
- A proper WYSIWYG export to PDF
- Drawn, diagram and mindmap style notes
But it’s still my favourite over Obsidian.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Trump cuts funding to FOSS projects.English
2·1 year agoBut if you try to load a local resource as localhost in Firefox…

For the sake of completeness:
Firefox contains a security patch which restricts the kinds of files that pages can load (and methods of loading) when you open them from a file:// URL. This change was made to prevent exfiltration of valuable data within reach of a local page, as demonstrated in an available exploit.
More info: https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Web/HTTP/CORS/Errors/CORSRequestNotHttp
Insecure, but fast fix, if you don’t want to install a local webserver:
about:config
security.fileuri.strict_origin_policy
change to false
