Snap is arguably the better sandbox. The bigger issue with Snap is that only Canonical (the company that owns Ubuntu) has the code for the Snap store, so it’s a closed ecosystem and there are no alternative stores, so the minute they enshittify it’s garbage. Flathub is the most popular flatpak repo but the code for a flatpak repo is open source, there are alternative options and will be in the future.

This is a relatively recent trend, and it tends to be for anime where the premise isn’t obvious before you watch it. In other words, it’s typically to avoid spoilers. I’ve been using the same 10+ year old 128G SSD for transcoding, cache, and metadata storage for like 6 years now across multiple tiny servers (as I’ve upgraded) with limited RAM. My current one has 16G of RAM, which is more than enough for JF, but not enough to store a whole movie transcode, let alone multiple at once. Refycled small old SSDs are a lot cheaper and easier to come by than RAM these days, that’s all I’m saying. No hate of course, your setup makes sense for what you have, I’m just saying my way is cheaper and more than fast enough for people just building their servers now.

tmpfs is overkill. I just use a crappy old 128G SSD and it’s still way faster than needed for all of my transcodes combined.

Hey bud, I play the games I feel like playing the way I feel like playing them at that time. I’m talking about optimizing for fun instead of letting a game hand me a list of chores to do on my weekend. That’s a personal preference and all I did was express mine.

There’s a massive PR undergoing round after round of reviews that, when merged, will be a change to 10.12 and will resolve all of the new database performance issues experienced in certain edge cases (book libraries, large music libraries, large collections, etc)

IMO the painful thing about it is that it was clearly just too ambitious of a simulation and they made it unmanageable, so then they backpedaled and made it too easy by having a lot of the systems automatically balance themselves (electricity from neighboring cities, for instance)

The original developer has literally been pulled off of Cities Skylines 2. Maybe the little developer that Paradox put on it to crank out DLCs will do a good job and fix it, but I doubt it.
