Everyone has a unique identifier. If you don’t share that with anyone, how would they know who’s vote it is? Couldn’t the number be randomized and a new UUID provided on a routine basis?

Every American has a Social Security number, but it’s not exactly like we’re told to broadcast it to the world… I don’t see why something like that couldn’t be implemented here using technology.

My point is the general ledger technology of the blockchain which would be beneficial here.

But of course this is all a pipe dream. America is damn near a Kleptocracy and both political parties have written laws to prevent a third political party from ever arising.

I’d love to see that happen, But it’s because America won’t switch to a direct democracy. Instead we have a Kleptocracy run by corporations and the 1% who have power over both parties in America. However if it were possible to create a third political party where every member of the party earns only one vote maybe it would give people power back over corporations. But it’s a pipe dream, I know it’ll never happen.

I personally envision a future where we use blockchain technology to create a new direct democracy party in which every member has a unique identifier and the blockchain ledger system used to track polling data. Every individual member of the party would have one vote in each poll at ever level (federal, state, regional, etc) - for every single thing that gets a vote, and the elected politician representing that party would be required to vote based on the polling data.

Everyone would have access to a copy of the ledger to confirm their votes are counted accurately, and they can review polling data to confirm their elected politicians are voting based on polling data, and the representative would be replaced if they do not adhere to the results

Dang, that stinks - I actually enjoy the steering mechanics in this game. It’s the only mobile game I have played in many many years because it’s easy to play a race or two and put the game away.

I haven’t done much with Excel and Word these days, but I have not had a single issue opening standard documents. The PDF import capabilities for LibreDraw work reasonably well. Many MANY years ago I fiddled with OpenOffice and then LibreOffice before moving to Office365 for a while.

Now I’m back to LibreOffice for the past 5+ years and haven’t had any complaints

Cool thanks for that, I’ve honestly never fiddled with Open SUSE, I gravitated to Linux Mint a while back and like that it’s still under constant development.

Quake itself was ok. The multiplayer version was fun. But the real fun started when people began modding the game. The original Team Fortress was actually a free mod for Quake which I’m pretty sure quickly became the most popular instance of the game for online play.

Funny random tidbit, I actually remember playing the game with one dude who specifically had to brag about having a high powered 1ghz processor as his username in the game (something like 1gigahertz or something cheesy like that). Pretty sure back then I was still rocking a 700mhz AMD Athlon Thunderbird processor.

Just don’t subscribe. When netflix pissed me off, I unsubscribed. When Adobe moved to a subscription based platform, I forced myself to learn alternative applications (although I still have a copy of Adobe Creative Suite from 2003 which I am still using on old laptop when needed). When Microsoft started charging a subscription to use “office” apps, I switched to LibreOffice. During Covid when I wasn’t using my gym membership I cancelled it and used that $75/month savings to start building a home gym setup (it ain’t great, but its better than nothing!)

If something is a subscription, I either find an alternative program/service, or simply don’t use it.

I bought my Galaxy S9 in 2018. I was afraid the curved screen would cause it to crack easier. NOPE this sucker has been a tank. I have it in a UAG case, and I have shattered the back (held together with tape behind the case haha). I’ve dropped the phone countless times, but it still won’t die.

Yeah the battery life isn’t great and the camera is junk by today’s standard. But dang the phone just keeps rocking along - so I have no justification to buy a new one.

That is correct, currently the tile needs the app running in the background. Which actually a lot of people have. Funny thing is a friend was traveling through Europe so I loaned them a tile to put in their backpack to track if lost. I found that popular travel spots like airports and town squares around Europe worked just fine. It was harder when traveling down the highway for example as far less people would have tile running on their phone in the background.

Like I said, I hope Google acquires Tile and integrates it like Apple did with the airtag. But instead it sounds like google is working on their own tracking chip, and will be releasing it as soon as Apple integrates their side (so both android and apple will alert users if someone else’s tags are tracking them)

I have a Tile Tag and it’s not bad. I keep them on my keychain, in the car, and when traveling. They aren’t as predominant as Air Tags yet, but they work.

I seriously suspect that Google will eventually acquire the Tile brand so they can absorb the patents without having to start from scratch.

I’m pretty sure it’s length of time. If you’re on a train next to someone, you won’t be for more than an hour or two. Not two days.

When the device follows you constantly for multiple days is likely when it’ll make the alert.

There is already a bluetooth device you can purchase that works with most any smartphone - it allows you to subscribe to a text messaging service which uses satellite communication (only a few messages per month if I recall correctly). I forget the brand but it hit the market like a year ago.

God I hate those no-contact temperature sensors - people use them on literally every surface without realizing there’s something called thermal emissivity - different surfaces reflect and radiate heat differently. A glass or metal surface will reflect heat much differently from wood or drywall surfaces.

These cheap no-contact temp sensors usually are set to measure the heat from surfaces found in home construction - drywall, wood, painted surfaces, etc. Some of the nicer ones can have adjustable emissivity but most people never tinker with that setting.

Now if you’re using a nice FLiR thermal camera, you absolutely need to tinker with emissivity to get a good image.

Given the fact that the display on this temp sensor does not display the emissivity setting, I’d assume it’s fixed - and not set to accurately read the temperature of that metal surface.

Wasn’t there a huge deal when they skipped from Win8.1 to Win10 - and they pinky promised that Windows10 was the last version of Windows, and they’d simply release major updates every so often? Pepperidge farm remembers.

I’m already tired of my buggy Windows10. I have no desire for Win11 or Win12. I’m installing dual boot with Linux Mint on a few different machines and never looking back haha

Yup, I totally have been making the switch to Open-Source software or browser-based software (like Photopea) for the past few years to ensure I’d be able to easily make the switch when windows finally pisses me off enough. But I think I’m already at that stage - every major windows-10 update seems to break more and more features on my computer lol
