You can absolutely rice your GRUB install. I haven’t used it in a hot minute, but I definitely had ones in the past that were themed.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•California just passed a law forcing mandatory DRM in 3D printersEnglish
341·15 days agoCalifornia needs to start pushing laws to shut down hardware stores, department stores, shopping malls, and office supply stores since you can buy things in those places to also create makeshift weapons.

Android@lemdro.id•Google is making it harder to build custom ROMs for Pixel phonesEnglish
4·20 days agoYup. iPhones were interesting when they came out, but I wasn’t a fan of how they were essentially pocket computers that you had no control over.
Android came and solved that problem… And now Google is trying to make Android into another iOS.
I’m seriously considering a dumb phone for my next device unless we have an affordable option for a Linux phone, because I have little faith that Android will still be worth my while in another 5-10 years.

Linux@lemmy.ml•[SOLVED] KDE, dolphin, "selecting" file with RMB in empty space?
5·22 days agoI’m not sure, but I’m shocked to see a fellow Macroblank fan out in the wild! I was pleasantly punked into listening to what I expected to be a sick metal album many years ago and instantly became a fan hahaha.
Glad it’s not just me that feels this way. He’s always come off a somebody who doesn’t really know shit about fuck but caters to people who know even less so he can pretend on the Internet.
LTT always seemed like somebody who doesn’t know wtf they’re talking about, but pretends to and appeals to people who know even less to make them feel smart. I can’t stand the dude.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Finally done with the distro-hop: My return to Fedora
5·1 month agoI don’t get it, but I also haven’t used Fedora since like 2007. I settled on Ubuntu for a while then jumped ship to Arch, and maybe for the first time I haven’t been wondering where I’d go to next because something frustrated me with the os lol

171·1 month agoYeah but all the apple users and idiot kids told me that nobody uses SD cards, just use the cloud!
Apparently the normies love paying tons of extra money for less space and less privacy and security, not to mention less access to your data should your network drop.

11·1 month agoNo shock here at all… This is why we need affordable Linux phones. There is a nonzero chance that my next phone could be a basic dumb phone that I do nothing with but the bare basics.

1·2 months agoI see more and I become more aware, which leads me to do research on competing brands if it’s something I want.
If I only saw ads for GM I’d wonder why they suck so much that they need to push so many ads for people to buy their vehicles. My comfort with a brand/product relies in the experience I’ve had with them along with word of mouth from friends and reviews for it.
The world would be a much better place if everyone was autistic, probably lol

7·2 months agoI will never understand how advertisements pay for things… Like who’s out there thinking “hell yeah, I really want to support this shit that’s interrupting everything I try to do every few minutes!” The stuff that people do buy that are advertised to them I always assumed were things they’d buy anyway like junk food and snacks.

2·2 months agoNo lol. The basic setup is: you point it to your libraries, it does the rest. Just like Plex.
Connecting remotely is maybe slightly trickier since you have to open it up to the internet, or just run tailscale.

1·2 months agoJellyfin is complicated? It’s easier to get going than Plex IMO. It might be slightly trickier to access it outside of your home network but even that’s not all that hard, just set up tailscale

2·2 months agoPlex and Jellyfin are basically like having your own Netflix built off your own media library. Plex offers a bunch of extra crap for a premium though.
Not sure if lead slab or a cursed pickle… Maybe both.
