  • €0.13/watt* here, random store I found online in my country, but it is a legitimate business, I checked that much. Not quite $0.12, but close enough and I didn’t spend much time looking for it.

Though I feel like just a few months ago I couldn’t find anything this cheap.

Either way, for me personally, my geographical location makes it kinda useless in the winter and for some months I’d have nothing to do with the excess I would produce from just a few panels - in the summer, there’s no point selling to the grid during daytime and the nights are too short to make proper use of any stored energy, you’d have fully charged batteries all the time.

Couple of months in spring and fall where things would run into a nice equilibrium though. Unfortunately not enough savings to pay for a battery. Think sodium batteries will change that over the coming years though, so I might go for it eventually.

    * just noticed this is excluding VAT, so add 24% on top - but then price comparisons make sense without VAT anyway, since that varies by country. I think most US states have much lower sales tax than our VAT.

  • And then you have the updates! That’s fun! They sell ERPs as SaaS, but it doesn’t work like any other SaaS. The major updates break tons of shit because your own customizations will be based on upstream fields and methods that no longer exist. Not as bad as migrating to another ERP entirely, but not exactly cheap. At work, we keep support for our custom modules for longer than the ERP company itself supports those old versions so our customers get an extra year or 2 out of it. It’s a pretty big deal for them and of course great for us, helps retention because they’d have to spend more for less if they go to the competitors (on even the same ERP that is - going to another ERP wouldn’t just be a migration cost, the annual cost itself would go up too).

  • Even Microsoft knows Windows is dead. That’s part of the reason for the push for office365 over locally installed applications. It’s not dead as in everyone will stop using it next year, but it’s dead as in it might only have 10 years left as THE dominant desktop OS, maybe more, maybe less.

What they’re really ingrained in business with is their ERP bullshit. Migrating a bunch of users from Windows to Linux is cheap and easy compared to migrating all your data AND users from Dynamics to SAP or Odoo or something. It’s such a headache, you basically never do it in-house, you contract that out to a company that specializes in the ERP you’re moving to. Because it’s not just data you’re migrating, it’s business processes too. Bunch of custom modules usually need to be created, yay!

I suspect that particular one is less a dark pattern and more the fact that you might one day want to connect to the computer for something other than charging and then a lot of users would complain about not being able to find the correct place to un-never it.

  • Tech Bros want you to install it because DHH is a fellow tech bro and a millionaire

90% of Lemmy hates it because of DHH’s post about how he used to idolize London as a kid but now stays the fuck away because not enough white people.

What makes it special is that it comes preinstalled with hyprland so you don’t have to pacman it. What makes hyprland special is that it’s a tiling wm for wayland made by someone who, judging by their behaviour on discord and github, is 13 years old. You can just install it on Arch. You also get it as an option in the installer for CachyOS, meaning you can get it preinstalled on Arch without using Omarchy.

Also you can just use Sway, which is also a tiling wm for Wayland. Less eye candy, but probably more stable and less likely to have significant security issues.
