Yep. A lot of these tech companies that have run in the red for years are now being called on to produce a profit and pay the big backers.

You can’t really cook a person’s rib primal the same way you’d do beef. People meat is not marbled like beef so you’d want to cook it low and slow with a lot of moisture.
So while you could have a people prime rib sandwich, it’s not going to have a great texture.
Except for the <.1% of users who do things like compile their own version of Infinity with their own user agent. They’re still there and not looking at ads.
Apparently, SpaceX has special tactics to stoke his grandiose ego and trick him into giving them the freedom they need.
It’s a tale as old as bosses. Many of them have big egos and think that because they’re in charge that magically gives them expertise. So if you want to do something you either get them looking at something shiny or you make them think it’s their idea.
I had a boss like that ages ago. If I wanted to work on something out of the ordinary I would plant the idea, then a few weeks later I would remind him that he brought it up a while ago. I used the fact that he had a million things going on so he never really remembered who brought it up. I didn’t care that he got the credit because I got to work on cool things and expand my repertoire.
That’s a great way to go. There are also still some budget options (Sceptre comes to mind) that don’t have any smart features in some models. My buddy just picked one up.
It’s an absolutely terrible TV, but for his use case it’s perfect. He’s using it as a karaoke monitor for parties at his house. It’s mounted in a covered patio and is dumb as hell.
You have women friends? Have them make your dating profile if you want to date online. Seriously. They’ll make you sound awesome while telling the truth. Chances are at least one of them is good at taking pictures.
Can you not have a bit of respect? Some of us are tryin’ to bask in moon glow!
They do it so I’m not as ugly. I apologize.
Same. They’re both perfectly valid opinions. If it’s 4 in the afternoon and I want a burger before a night of hard drinking, keep your damn egg to yourself. If it’s 4 in the morning after a night of hard drinking, a runny yolk on a greasy bacon breakfast burger is just what the doctor ordered. But for me hard fried or scrambled just don’t feel right.
Fitz the Cat happened in '72.
I like to add bourbon to that mix to thin it out a little. That’s Christmas to me.
That’s why way back in the day they had GIMPshop and why there’s PhotoGIMP now.
That has been my favorite hacker lore story since I first heard it decades ago.
Agreed.
Theoretically they could still be using it, but it’s pretty doubtful. It was just a GUI to run a set of scripts for an old set of programs that should have been retired before XP came out.
I was at an MSP at the time. One of our customers had stuff that wouldn’t install on anything after Win98, was looking for a bunch of hardware that no longer exists, and all the associated DLLs had to be registered manually. I created it because I was tired of doing it all by hand.
My assumption would be the guys who were there at the same time as me used it (I know they did actually), but a year after I left the whole bullpen turned over and I doubt they used it after that. They lost a pile of clients. Even if that hadn’t happened, if they’re still supporting 25 year old software with 15 year old scripts run by a 12 year old and poorly hacked together front end by a guy who was definitely not a programmer at the time (and barely is now) then they get whatever they deserve.
Absolutely not. I left that job not long after. It officially became someone else’s problem.
I assume they’re not using it anymore. The company was purchased last year so I have to think that they have problems with other code that makes no sense.
#The following code does nothing, but if removed the whole program crashes
-Me, circa 2011
They all but abandoned that years ago. They ain’t implementing shit on it.
ChimeraOS and HoloISO. I haven’t heard of Bazzite but I’m going to have to go look now in case HoloISO gets abandoned. Should be an easy replacement.
I’m using HoloISO (it’s like 95% SteamOS) on a mini PC (all AMD, 680M iGPU because I wanted to get close to the deck specs). I mostly stream games from elsewhere in the house, but it has a few titles installed locally.
The sleep works perfectly so far for local titles. I assume other Arch based distros with all of the steam software installed (like ChimeraOS) work just as well. If the hardware maker who puts it on their box makes sure their hardware is well supported it shouldn’t be an issue.
That era of Internet history was wild. Between weird sex stuff like that and tentacle soup, weird body stuff like goatse and tubgirl, and straight up death like two guys one hammer. It seemed like every third person on the internet was trying to trick you into watching one of those.
