  • I enjoyed Helck in a similar manner to Frieren.

Ascendance of a Bookworm I saw was recommended as well, and I’ll second that one.

If you meant magical as in fascinating, not literal magic, Golden Kamuy is one of my favs. It’s a historical fiction adventure with lots of hilarious gags. You learn, you laugh, you get lots of adventure. Does have some some gross parts as it’s war-adjacent, but it’s largely an adventure comedy. One of my top anime/manga, and i didn’t see enough people talk about it.

  • I also get a bit puzzled by the negative comments on the stays themselves. If people want to complain about what AirBNB does to communities, that I can get to some extent, but even then, if it really impacts things any more than an old school landlord buying properties and renting them out, I’m not sure. I live in a neighborhood with over 30% of the units being rentals, and there’s good and bad that comes with it.

As far as stays go, I’ve maybe done a dozen or so AirBNB stays by now, and they have always been wonderful. I only look at places that have solid reviews and read through all the rules/fees posted and there’s never been an issue.

I’m staying at one this weekend, and the hostess was texting me last night telling me what parts of the city to avoid since it’s St Patty’s weekend and will be a bit crazier and which places aren’t worth the money and are just tourist traps.

I won’t say I don’t believe there aren’t people out there with bad experiences, but I’ve stayed in many hotels that were ugly, old, dirty, noisy people next door, room wasn’t made on arrival, etc. but I’ve yet to get a bad AirBNB and they usually add to my trip experience because I like meeting the hosts and getting their insights. I also feel less bedbug potential exists if they’re living there too.

And the peak benefit is I can find ones that have pets! I don’t have any right now, but I do many times miss having them, and getting a place with a cat or dog or goat or what not lets me enjoy that without the responsibility!

The fact there’s always more people crapping on AirBNB in every thread that mentions it vs people with good experience seems off to me though. Makes my NIMBY sense tingle a little bit is all… 😉

You seem to have some particular privacy concerns that I’m not totally in the know about, but if it being an app isn’t a requirement, I’ve used photojoiner.com with great success and no obnoxious stuff to my knowledge.

They do have an app, but I’m not sure it will meet your privacy requirements.

You sound like someone who has a pretty locked down browser, so all it should get is what you supply, but if you want to keep it locally, I don’t imagine this would help you, but if it’s not the photos but rather your other data and location you wish to protect, this may work.

Again, I’m not hardcore into data privacy, so I may be off on what you need.

  • I feel like I’ve only ever seen Donald Duck OJ as part of a cheap hotel’s complimentary breakfast! 😆

I remember foil tabs like those on a few things, but I was born a smidge too late for “pop tops,” which pulled off the same way, but were as thick as the to of the can. People supposedly just tossed the little shrapnel pieces everywhere for people to get poked with. Hence the switch to a tab that stayed connected to the can.

  • I love Aldi and it’s where I get 75% or so of my groceries. I enjoy cooking, so it’s easy to get basic quality ingredients there, and I’ll grab the occasional prepared food as a treat, especially during German week!

They’ve expanded their offerings and still manage a good price. We’ve gotten there ground bison and lamb and dinner frozen duck breasts that have all been great. I like their flake style imitation crab. They have some good seasonal offerings.

Their not having any name brands seems to help them beat the price collusion the other stores have. Giant has bought out most of the stores near me, which doesn’t help, but I buy little enough there I don’t complain much about it.

  • You had me zooming in looking for something. Like others have said, this is the “passing the savings along to you” look.

Target is a little more lively with an actual ceiling and brighter color scheme, but it’s really the same thing with a little extra polish.

This is a Giant Supermarket. Same overall feel as the Walmart, but slightly less warehouse like to make things look more appetizing.

Aldi has done a pretty good job of remodeling. It’s a value brand store where just about everything is store label, and it used to look rougher than Walmart. Now it’s become almost trendy and chic, but prices are still good. Makes the others really look like penny pinchers.

A large part of it is probably stores are so big making it nice would be “cost prohibitive” since they’d require more cleaning and maintenance.

  • That was much better looking than I ever would have imagined.

The characters look really darn close to the originals, and they look to have made a real life Ushiyama not look ridiculous with that hanpen forehead.

This is one of my favorite properties, so I am cautiously optimistic, though I’m curious how they will handle some of the humor.
