Depends on the docker containers but it’s way overkill than you might think.
Since you’re starting it may be worth looking into used office PCs like the thinkcentre from Lenovo or other brands(no tiny or ssf since they don’t have to room for drives). They often offer good perfomance for the price and the power consumption is not too high.

22·3 months agoWhile browsing the manual you’re on point. I bet the 2 drives are plug into SATA3_A1 and A2. These 2 are handled by an ASMedia ASM1061

2·4 months agoI’m totally on your side about awareness and “you have to check it yourself”.
Nobody is telling AI aided projects are bad. Nobody is saying vibe-coded projects are bad.
The problem with vibe-coded projects is, that on average, the code isn’t checked by the owner itself. Surely there a some people using AI as aid and check it afterwards but this is sadly only a small proportion.
In my honest opinion, we should not create rules around exceptions.
We’re currently in a timeline, where it’s hard to tell what is right and what is wrong about AI usage but we have to start somewhere…

1·4 months agoSo doing nothing is the way? There are useful project created with AI but also a lot of harmful ones.
Even I know, that the bigger part of selfhosters are copy and pasting guides and aren’t developer themselve, so why should we not try and at least warn these people?

5·4 months agoThanks for your work, time and effort. I also think, it would be better to separate it and first end the discussion about promotions and co, so it could settle before kicking of another round^^

17·4 months agoNice to see the changes, but may I ask if tagging could be beneficial?
Surely it would help to sort out self promotion, help requests and informational posts.
Also, since we’re all in the lemmy-bubble, a lot of people may despise vibe-coded projects, at least it looks/feels like it, so it may be worth tagging project with AI code?
I’m maybe narrow-minded, but please enlighten me^^

1·10 months agoNever touched HK but a buddy of mine uses it only. AFAIK HK compatibility is expensive compared to cheap HA integrations. Even hardware not specifically for HA can be integrated like Tuya products with “local Tuya” so the availability is huge compared to HK. Getting into HA takes a bit time but it’s worth it.
There is an HA app on android and iOS where you can create widgets for all kind off stuff ranging from switches over sensors to scenes and automations. Or you can create multiple dashboards for each kid with their own layout.
It’s at least worth a try.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•how do you explain selfhosting to the non-techies in your life?English
2·1 year agoDepending on reliability and stability of the local internet and power, you want to have your stuff available. Ranging from documents and photos up to your libary of everything else. Everything has pros and cons and what things you’re fine with.
Most of the time, all news are doing the part of “why it’s bad to rely on big corp”…
Explain why you care about it, usually if the people trust you, they will share your opinion

I don’t know the newer ones but the Huawei watch GT 2 is using “Huawei lite os”. No 3rd party apps and pretty limited in functions but the battery life is amazing with about 14-15 days for me at least. This combined with a modded app is just right. AFAIK the newer ones are more capable but have a slight less runtime
Just a small heads-up, don’t post the full code as a whole. Bots these day are cancer…
