I fry other things, and know the oil struggle, but for fries, I’ve been using the air fryer recently with success. (America’s test kitchen recipe works)

101·16 days agoThat’s a good point. I was just going to say that’s how useful their personal trainer was

(Though I agree that’s a great idea)

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•How long does it take for pirate copy quality to improve?English
15·1 month agoYou likely have a cam release. Telesync is a bit better quality typically (sound is typically better). Anything better takes time

2·1 month agoHonestly? It was a pain, I used several different guides and they were all out of date in different ways. Unfortunately, it looks like external users are having connectivity problems, that I’ll try to solve next week when I have time.

4·1 month agoDisplay case? Add more wood to the bookshelf and maybe a plexiglass or polycarbonate clear door to keep out dust, some soft led lighting, and show off neat stuff up there.

Merry Christmas, and go pick out the paints for the wall.

18·1 month agoMy kid is 9, and it’s all Minecraft and I just installed a non federated synapse server so they can text family without having to deal with parental controls. At that age, I figure it’s more about having fun, and if they learn typing skills on the way, big win

2·1 month agoOidc, and it’ll end up opening up to more family around the holidays, as authentik is also my matrix user provider (shut out of the real world because I wanted my 9 year old to be able to text and video call family). Mealie was a piece of cake compared to the whole synapse environment

2·1 month agoI’m running https://github.com/awinterstein/habitica/ and have built the android app locally to get access. I really need to update and build it again eventually.
It’s not seamless, but it functions for the family.

11·1 month agoMine demands a stable routine, sometimes makes a ton of noise, only to retreat if anything else makes similar noise, is super smart, but forgetful. Very sensitive to emotions. Overall a lovely dog, but this might get her a diagnosis. (Not a professional, just have a dog)

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Fun/interesting things to self host?English
10·1 month agoExamples of the type of service I’m looking at: a media server, photos app (to replace Google Photos), game servers, recipe management, home automation… What other things do you know about that are fun/interesting/useful?
I use:
- Immich for photo hosting
- Jellyfin and navidrome for media (video and audio)
- Calibre and calibre-web for ebooks
- Minecraft server
- Mealie for recipes.
- Home assistant for automation
- Habitica for habit forming
- And I have fpp for my Christmas lights (the application is xlights, fpp is the server that runs the scripts)
All of these I like.

9·2 months agoUgh, I just got matrix with video working and it took way too long.
When I set it up, I did not know better.
Now? Inertia. Nginx already does it for other things, I haven’t bothered to move home assistant over because home assistant works ( all but one days in a cycle)
Video and voice chat with matrix works well once it’s set up. I… Struggled a bit setting it up, and I don’t think I’m the exception.
Haven’t tried screen sharing yet.
