  • (I’m just speculating for fun here)

Based on the sash, this is a woman celebrating a birthday or bachelorette. Due to the pattern on it I’m leaning toward birthday, as bachelorette sashes tend to be solid white.

She’s probably hammered, having been day drinking since 10AM (that’s what those sashes are for; to give lunch goers a clear visual warning sign.) and based on the shadow line and assumed time of year (I’m just assuming it’s not northern California in winter, but it might be) that is probably like 4-5pm, so she’s been drunk for a solid while, probably in the sun.

So very drunk, good mood woman gets an idea that twerking poolside (very possibly to no music or music played off a shitty phone) is the way to keep the party going (a shockingly common sort of happening at those two categories of sash-wearing events). And for that one guy, far far too old to have any shame left about being a creep, she’s absolutely right.

This makes me wonder, though, if those dumb attention seeking sashes exist outside of the us (baseball hat in background seems to indicate US)… I’m sure they must in some form, but I really sort of hope it’s just here that people are so self absorbed as to think a birthday or wedding is a free pass to be a public disaster. (Also there used to be a trend of wearing a sash so strangers would staple money to it, but thankfully that seems to have died…)

  • I’ve had this a lot. I’m almost 40, live alone, and never married, but I often get stuff addressed to “Mr and Mrs solarmonkey”… as a bonus, since my dad’s generation there have been zero new men with that last name (only girls from my dad and his brothers).

I love getting junk mail addressed to my mortgage co-signer, though. He has never lived here. Sometimes they address me with his last name, which is pretty funny (it’s my step-dad, and my mom died years ago, so we really don’t have much of a relationship at this point, and definitely don’t share a last name).

I like throwing that stuff directly in the recycling. If you don’t even know who I am that makes my job really easy.

  • I have a cat who, through no fault of her own (every cat from that queen is neurotic), is super neurotic. She suckles blankets, has zero self control, and does naughty things that she knows are naughty. She can’t help herself. I can watch her in real time process the conflict and she still goes for the thing she knows is bad.

It really sucks to have to deal with that sort of energy when you wanted the opposite. (I had a pair of kittens, along with a pair of adults. One of the calm kittens failed to thrive and died the same day as one of my adults so I was a mess, and the only other kitten I could get on short notice was the neurotic “spicy” kitten. The other adult, who was the whole reason I got kittens at all, died unexpectedly a few months later)

But they do learn that their behavior is unwanted with frequent calm reinforcement. Mine are about a year old now, and all I have to say is “hey (name), please stop”, and they both mostly do. The neurotic cat still has self control issues, but I think of her like someone with ADHD, which I can relate to. It’s just hard to do things that don’t satisfy that impulse. But she’s really trying and I can tell.

You’ll probably get to that point too, and it’s super super frustrating for that first year or so until she learns what is and is not ok. But you’ll make it. You’ve absolutely dealt with worse and more frustrating things, if you still can’t stand her when she’s a year old, she’ll still be adoptable young, and it’ll give you time to hash out the issues with your partner so she fully understands your position and the logic behind it.

My method of reinforcement was to gently remove her head from whatever thing, and say “(name), please stop”. I’m still working on the suckling - it’s harder to stop because it’s a comfort action, but she doesn’t attack my hands anymore (that was just not engaging, removing hand, and ignoring for 5 min), doesn’t chew cords or table corners, etc. it takes a ton of reinforcement, but it does work. Cats are scientists, they explore the world by doing things to it and seeing what happens. If the result isn’t great, they stop.

I don’t really have a solution to the space issue, but maybe you can employ your fiancée to distract the cat while you recharge and prepare. It may also help with the attack issue. If she’s not into the toys you have, try getting different ones (wand toys with changeable heads, laser pointers, but you have to end with an attack toy or they feel unfulfilled, heck I have a staircase, and use a mouse on a string to wear out my cats by making them run up to get it then dragging it back down. They burn out very fast that way.)

  • I feel like the point of that in it takes two is communication. It’s pretty heavy-handed in the whole “sort out your shit amongst yourselves” theme, and it’s sort of meant as a way for a gamer to get a non-gamer into gaming, so you’d have one person with the skillz leading the other through challenges.

Or at least that’s how it played out with me. The person I was playing with is also a gamer but not really environmental/puzzle games (and easily frustrated) so it was sort of playing around with what to do and walking each other through - calling out timing and stuff, etc.

It’s a very interesting take on co-op, imho.

If you like small people in huge environments, exploring, and not being super hand-held, tinykin is a cute game, not super long, it does sort of a bit guide you through some major things but not in a particularly obnoxious way. Mostly just exploring on your own. :)

  • I used to have an Xperia pro, the one with the physical keyboard. It was my last keyboard phone. I absolutely loved it.

Flashed a different OS, cyanogenmod I believe, which broke the governor chip (irreparable; known issue but super buried, would have done the same with any OS of that version number, including stock) so it would read as a dead battery if not on the charger.

Never touched Sony phones again. Don’t trust them at all.

  • I wish more games had playable demos. Even after the game comes out, just rip part of it out and let me play it. It’s one thing to watch a gameplay video, it’s another thing entirely to try it out for yourself.

I get that in this case, the demo showed too much (giving the impression there would be more growth), and that was a disappointing experience, but I’d argue that’s an issue with the demo/game combo itself - it’s for a game that only takes a couple hours total, so it’s very limited in what it can do with a demo. It would be like a demo of stray (2 hours to get through the story) or tinykin (under 10 hours for 100%) both also very short games with very limited abilities. You can do a short teaser, but then people would complain it’s too short and whatever… it’s a no-win there, I think, because the author even says there’s a good story missed in the demo.

But if you have a demo of, for example, dysmantle, it doesn’t matter that the gameplay is exactly the same for 100 hours, and the only thing that changes is -what- you can smash… there’s some progression involved, but not much… it’s basically just smashing and exploring, and that’s all the demo would be. And that’s ok too, because holy SHIT is that repetition fun!
