I don’t think there were any top tier phones, hardware wise, that have all the things people want in a cellphone: IR blaster, SD slot, headphone jack, high-end chipset , great screen and a big battery just doesn’t exist. Probably added on there would be ease of installing custom OS as well but most would settle for a phone that didn’t if it had all the previous.

All that said I think the Golden Lemmy should go to the biggest disappointment instead.

Everyone knows it was all bullshit but try to remember nearly every day of all four years of Trump’s presidency, and months prior campaigning, were filled to the brim with bullshit. Many people, myself included, just gave up on politics for a while after he lost to Biden just to try and stay mildly sane.

Yes, in America you either pay for college, qualify for scholarship(s) or grant(s) or you get student loans. Considering the cost of a college education can easily climb into the six digits and interest rates into the double digits, along with low stagnant wages, these loans can, and do, last a lifetime. And since there is zero guarante you will even find a job remotely relating to your degree after you graduate that allows you to both live and pay off your loans you end up double fucked. And and you can’t just not pay because then they will garnish your wages so you’re still fucked.

Education and the job market are total and complete shit in the US. I encourage all my nieces and nephews to look into union based trades work instead of higher education. Hell, as much as I hate the police union I even encourage them to go there because damn are the benefits and pay good.

I was walking around a Best Buy a week or so ago and took a look at the foldable phones. The things cost nearly as much as the new dual screen laptop from Lenovo! That and the fact the screens are still liable to break and I just can’t understand the appeal.

And it will be the machines we create and build to remove the plastics that it will start with. Probably some nano machine. We’ll give them the simple job of “find and remove all micro plastics from air/soil/water” while we continue to use plastic. And eventually the little AI will come to the inevitable conclusion that the only way to achieve this goal is remove the cause of micro plastics aka humans.

And if you haven’t played Universal Paperclips you should. Also read “I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream” by Harlan Ellison. Both work off the same concept as above and is the most common argument against the use of AI. Or at least making AI that can learn.
