He was, but then USA pressured Romania into releasing the Tate brothers and they escaped to USA. Although Romania denies they were ever pressured, the Tate brothers was accused of quite a bunch of crimes including human trafficking, so it is awfully convenient that the Romanian government just gave them up like that.

It’s a good point. And a quick search gave 60% or higher if one wanted to really sterilize. Apparently below that it depends on the strain of bacteria and how sensitive they are to alcohol.
True, but that’s straight Johnnie Walker’s red label whisky, 40% alcohol ought to kill any germs getting flushed down her gullet.
This is disturbing. I’m glad I’m on feddit.dk and I saw “my” admin (SorteKanin) in the comments of that “more information here” comment thread pointing out how that shouldn’t be hardcoded into the software.

Linux@lemmy.ml•‘It’s such poor quality software’: GOG owner criticises Windows, says it will support Linux better in the future | VGC
16·25 days agoThis fills me with optimism for the future of GOG. While I do love GOG it does seem like they’ve been running on autopilot for quite a while, but hopefully with new management they’ll get to improve things for us Linux gamers. A native version of GOG Galaxy would be nice, or they could improve the API and development of projects like Comet that makes GOG achievements detectable ingame.

Linux@lemmy.ml•‘It’s such poor quality software’: GOG owner criticises Windows, says it will support Linux better in the future | VGC
2·25 days agoYou can select versions using Heroic Games Launcher as well. It's a little bit hidden as you need to select 'Modify installation', but it's there. As far as I know it's not a limitation by HGL that it can only select 5 versions, that's just how many versions GOG have made available.

Linux@lemmy.ml•‘It’s such poor quality software’: GOG owner criticises Windows, says it will support Linux better in the future | VGC
9·25 days agoThere are a few launchers that makes it easy to play GOG and Epic Games Store games like “Heroic Games Launcher”. It has experimental “Comet” support which means it records achievements and leaderboard statistics for certain games.
Updates are easy to apply through the launcher, and it's optional whether to update or not, you're not forced to like in Steam.

You can also select between 5 versions, although that's just a GOG thing, there's no such feature for Epic (which HGL also supports).

And it supports cloud game saves.
GOG falls short on the social features though, but it also doesn’t have “Steam Workshop”. So I definitely think of those aspects when selecting games to buy on each platform. But it’s not like all multiplayer games are unplayable if you’re not on Steam, although games that are built around Steamworks and rely on it most likely aren’t compatible with other platforms - one could call it anti-competitive behaviour by Steam to “trick” developers to only support multiplayer via their platform, but oh well.
And as for a lot of “friendslop” games, a lot of them have been made in Unity and are quite easy to mod with R2Modman or Gale which rely on the Thunderstore.Sorry for the ramble.

Linux@lemmy.ml•I dumped Windows 11 for Linux, and you should too
3·29 days agoI knew I wanted to switch at one point before Microsoft ended support for Windows 10, so I began experimenting January 2024, but I quickly realized I could make do with what I had in my MX Linux install. Granted, X11 and more than one monitor with 2 different refresh rates wasn’t great, but by February of 2025 Nvidia fixed some variable refresh rate bugs that made Wayland primetime ready, and I’ve been on Nobara ever since. And it’s been incredibly stable. And there’s so much fun stuff to do.

Linux@lemmy.ml•I have the absolute worst reason for dual booting Linux and Windows
4·1 month agoI just use Virtual Machine Manager, the thing is that once you add the controller to the list of passthrough devices into the Windows VM, it’ll change (spoof? create a virtual device?) into another device ID meaning you then have to add that device afterwards and then you’ll be able to use the software to change stuff. Bit finicky, and it means it’ll have to be done each time one wants to boot up said VM and change stuff. But it works.

Linux@lemmy.ml•I have the absolute worst reason for dual booting Linux and Windows
13·1 month agoI have an 8bitdo controller, and the software for customizing macros and updating firmware only runs on windows, and I just use a virtual machine with USB passthrough set up and it works amazingly.
X-Mouse Button Control is goated. I probably used it on windows since Windows XP.
Now that I’m on Linux I use “Input Remapper”.
Reminiscent of when Paypal froze all payments to Julian Assange.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•“Yo what?” LimeWire re-emerges in online rush to share pulled “60 Minutes” segmentEnglish
82·2 months agoI did see this headline yesterday and then downloaded the 60 minutes segment using Nicotine+ which is a Soulseek client. I did look at an alternative to Limewire for linux called “Frostwire” but apparently it’s now just a bittorrent client, where it used to support Gnutella in the past. And finally I did find that the internet archive of course had a torrent available which I also got for good measure.
EDIT: It was possible to get something with gtk-gnutella, but it was nowhere near as fast, nor did I get more than just one result. It may be more resiliant, but if nobody is using it..

They’ve literally corporatized everything over there, everything is designed by committee now in hopes to hit as wide an audience as possible. They’d rather not take creative risks and create slop to get number to go up.

Linux@lemmy.ml•What folders do you make in addition to the default ones ?
2·2 months agoAhh, a
~/.local/optfolder makes so much sense. I’m currently just using a~/.optfolder, same purpose.
How about house them in a way that take away their voting rights and use them as cheap labor? Member how prisoners were used to fight the Palisades fires in January?
Woah, that’s wild. If you run the browser in fullscreen mode (F11) it’s almost like you’re running it on your own machine. Pretty cool service.

What are they gonna do? Punish them with trillions more in debt?
