Not popular- commercial. The early internet had effectively no profit motive. As it aged there was a modicum of balance between use and profit - a good site drives customers. Now there are a preponderance of sites which exist only to scrape pennies off advertisers and have no useful content except that which is required to garner a click from a search engine in hopes you will accidentally create an advertising impression.

Sopuli was my original instance from before I knew what the Fediverse was but however they have their server set federated community discovery has been broken from the beginning. World is my reddit migration account and I moderate a couple of communities there. I really like some of the communities on Beehaw, and they defederated pretty quickly from just about anyone with more than a few users, so I got an account there. Kbin didn’t seem to work as well cross-federation so…number 4. And I use a different handle for NSFW. It would be nice to have an app for aggregating usernames across instances, but I much of my browsing from desktop so it’s really nbd.

No need to stop using LW. I’ve got three accounts on different instances plus kbin. Oh, and I fifth on if you count my nsfw login. Partitioning your online life is nbd, really. And the fediverse makes it easy.

I’ve kept 10 on my workstation, and let my laptop go to 11. I have only one beef with 11 and that I’d that I’ve had some taskbar folders I used as shortcut menus, and they take an extra click to get to on 11. Otherwise it’s practically transparent. Feels more like W10 SP3, really.

I’m sure it would, but someone must think of the children, and make sure that the on board software is up to date for safety’s sake. (I can hear the money changing hands to fill the election coffers of the congressional oversight committee members even as I type this).

Why would you give them access? Maybe android sucks, but iOS sandboxes apps. And on desktop you just pull up a firefox private session. It’s not that hard.

Assuming you have a phone which skies allows you to deny permissions on an app-level, what is preventing you from browsing it? Is it political? Job related (ie your only device is a work device)?

While you can easily let it feed you crap, you have a reasonable ability to tune what the algo feeds you. Unless you really do have a self control issue, which is legit/fair reading to avoid the temptation.
