That… Just sounds like having a baby. Our newborn ate every 2-3 hours for the first couple months. We’re only just getting to longer sleeps at night.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•self-hosted image hosting like Imgur?English
24·3 months agoCommenting more so I can easily find this thread again, since I’d be curious as well.
For personal photos that I share I use Immich, and Immich-Proxy for sharing the photos (so I’m don’t want to directly share the actual URL of my Immich server). Works well for that, but doesn’t anywhere meet the drag and drop simplicity of Imgur.

31·3 months agoI’ve never understood it either. I have to assume it’s a younger generation thing that’s moving into more online spaces as that generation grows up.
ETA will always be Estimated Time of Arrival. An actual useful acronym.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Search results for “megusta”.English
6·3 months agoYou’re correct, it is the name of a specific meme. But they didn’t search for the meme, they searched for a general phrase. Without adding the qualifier of ‘meme’, there’d be no reason to bring it to the front.
I’ve been using SwiftKey since before Microslop bought them, I think way back to my Nexus 7 tablet. It’s… enshitefied in some ways with extra bloat, but I’m way too used to it at this point and I do love it’s customization options.
To me it’s separating services, which I’m getting ready to do. I’ve got 40-50 containers running at any time on my Unraid server, and I’ve been meaning to migrate some of those stacks to their own dedicated machines, mainly for downtime/maintenance on my main server.
Now I’m not going to go out and buy several PCs just for that, but I do have some old unused laptops that would love having Linux thrown on them…

7·8 months agoIt’s still a one time purchase for the license. It’s only OS updates that would need to be paid for yearly after the 1st year

What you’re looking for is genealogy software. You’ve got me curious about this as well now, hadn’t thought about it before. I’m seeing some recommendations online for Gramps Web, don’t know if it’s a perfect fit but might be a good starting point.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Introducing reitti: a selfhosted alternative to Google TimelineEnglish
6·1 year agoThis is really awesome! I was just about to start looking for something like this, so great timing. Going to get this up on my Unraid server tomorrow and play around with it
A web browser is not a computer. A phone is not a desktop computer. Google (and most other large companies) keep many features restricted to their full websites, not mobile apps and mobile versions of their sites. For those who are used to/grew up with smartphones, tablets, and chromebooks, these tactics help to make it harder to leave their ecosystems as they aren’t used to navigating desktop environments.
(Chromebooks do give desktop versions of websites by default, but they have helped reduce technological literacy in exchange for convenience)
They said to try again on a computer. All your screen shots are from a phone. You might get the same result, but we won’t know until you attempt it.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•This whole "Sign in to prove you're not a bot" thing is pissing me offEnglish
43·1 year agoYou got a source for that?
One of the ways VPNs work is by having all your web traffic look like it’s coming from somewhere else, obscuring where you’re really from. They will see a different IP address than what yours actually is. If you were the only person doing this there would be no problem, but VPNs only have so many servers so companies often know what IP addresses those are. What they see is THOUSANDS of actions being taken by a single IP address, so of course it looks like bots! It makes total sense to have some verification to help against DDOS attacks and bad actors.

Firefox@fedia.io•Mozilla rewrites Firefox's Terms of Use after user backlash | TechCrunch
5·1 year agoThe article points out that the legal definition of what a sale is didn’t match how they were using it. They didn’t stop promising to not sell user data.
Ah, I see. Because I don’t have the same problems and suffer exactly like you I MUST be a classist prick who cares only for themselves.
Since you’re so powerful and wise, and apparently know my whole situation, how about you get over here and rip my land-owning heart out of my chest since apparently that’s the only thing that will appease you.
Wait, I don’t own land. Because it’s a fucking condo. That we lived in for years until we were in a position to get away from it.

Embeds from Immich work really well!
