They’re Czech. The name even has a little thing on the S, officially.

It means “mixed breed” in Portuguese and Spanish. You’d most often hear the word in South America, where it means some particular mixture of heritage as far as I remember.

I think you can find a middle ground between “I assume they’d come and politely discuss it” and “I think constantly whether my every single minor action can offend someone”.

You still occasionally see people talk about their weight in stone, but many just use kilos now, anecdotally.

In my experience, if you’re looking to lose a bit of flab for the summer, you’d say you want to lose six pound to half a stone (which is 7lb) or whatever, but if you go the gym regularly and keep an extremely keen eye on your weight, or if you like to think you do, you use kilos. As a rule, you’d use imperial for eyeballing or for measuring things with a bit of play, but you’d use metric if you need precision.

I think it’s more that you get taught the “right” way of doing, speaking, etc. and people are geared to dislike challenges to that idea until they learn to accept change. Another example would be people who’ve learnt how to do a particular task at work being shown a better way of doing it but having a niggling sense that the way they’d learnt first is ipso facto better.

I still can’t find the bit where he goes, “let’s go SHOPPING.”

Yeah after writing it I sort of realised I was pointing out the joke, but we’re here now.

Not many situations where you can use the phrase “I’ve often been born”.

There’s a game called Heart & Slash which is very charming and has a soulslike streak to it. It’s quite hard to beat in totality but it’s enough fun that you don’t mind clawing your way to the end.

There are stations on Anglesey where you have to stick your arm out to hail the train, and the only two routes they lie on are served by the kind of 1970s DMU like you mentioned on its way to Chester or a Pendelino on its way to London or something.
