A better question might be why shouldn’t they? I’m not being pedantic (at least not intentionally) but if their defining characteristic is that they’re nothing special, just a simple Linux distro that does the basic shit easily enough and looks nice - that has major appeal to people unfamiliar with Linux looking to leave other OS’s behind. The vast majority of people that use an OS really have very little idea how it works or why. They just want some basic level of understanding and control over it.

Correct. Benefits can and do get cut frequently without unions. Benefits cannot be cut in a union under contract, and if they try to cut them on the next contract you have the power to collectively bargain and strike if they do not come to the table and bargain in good faith. It’s actually got a soft padding inside the clip and a hollow sort of “bridge” area specifically to avoid that. Sometimes the bottoms get phantom pushed when you’re putting your phone in but once it’s secure it doesn’t actually put pressure on them if the buttons are up top. The bottom is flat so you want to avoid using it with them oriented down. A case helps too as it adds even more resistance to button presses. I used it on my pixel 6 and now on my 7pro and have no issues. Many many hours of dead cells in the books.

8bitdo also makes a small version of the SN30 that’s “Xbox” branded specifically for mobile gaming and has the Xbox buttons and layout. That version has a clip with an even more pronounced hollow for buttons on both sides. I REALLY like that clip, it’s much more convenient for travelling but I find my hand cramps when I use that smaller controller so i only take it for trips if I absolutely can’t make room for the bigger controller.
