This literally happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I even honked the horn and they just ignored it and kept talking like they were the only ones on the road. Some people are just so oblivious.

  • Seriously, I honestly feel like this is a bad look for Lemmy right now. Like who cares how people enjoy Lemmy? Also, why do people care so much about how others spend their money?

Some of these people don’t even realize they are using a closed source app (connect) and have no problem with it, but when price is introduced all of a sudden people are up in arms.

Don’t like the price? Continue to use Sync(with ads) or use the other plethora of FOSS alternatives.

  • Funny enough, I’m getting ready to board a plan soon and I’m using sync 😂

Have you tried Memmy for iOS?

Yes I have! Memmy is a great app and it was the first one to reach the Apple store. The development team consistently pushed out updates pretty much daily and was able to provide the most features of any Lemmy app currently on iOS, at least in my opinion.

My main phone is also an iPhone, but it’s just something about sync. Like it’s seriously so fluid and it just feels “right” I would highly suggest giving it a try if you have an Android device laying around that can support it.

  • That’s fine. In my opinion, I think that would be more of a valid point if there were no alternatives, but as the original post shows there are plenty of FOSS apps available for those that want that.

I just feel like the developer has took a lot of his time and effort to make this for the community, but instead, some of the community decides to bash him for it due to the pricing model and it not being FOSS.

We’re supposed to be building Lemmy as a community but here we are fighting against ourselves internally when there’s plenty of options for everyone to use.

  • I honestly don’t see what the problem is. If you prefer FOSS use FOSS apps.

I’ve tried every single Lemmy app for iOS and Android, but I can honestly say nothing comes close to how smooth and native Sync feels.

I wasn’t even a Sync user on Reddit so I didn’t understand the hype, but I get it now. On my Pixel 6 Pro all of the other Lemmy apps had some kind of issues, whether that be random crashes or frame rate issues. But Sync is just so smooth and feature rich.

I’ve also joined the sync discord and the developer is very clear on what type of data he collects (He doesn’t, but Google may).

Also with the pricing, if you don’t agree with the price that’s your opinion, but the amount of complaining is ridiculous. He made the app so whatever he wants to charge is his decision. You can also still freely use the app (with ads) so no one is forcing you to buy.

  • Yes! Got stopped by mine one day at the end of my shift going out the main entrance and he just kept talking for about 15 minutes. I was making it pretty obvious I’m off and trying to leave by even putting my foot in the door, but he just would not stop talking.

Now if I see him I just make a quick detour and use the other exit.

  • I’m currently using a pixel 6 pro. I took a long break from Androids. The last one that I owned was a S9 Plus.

I love the screen with the high refresh rate and it’s really responsive. I also love the live translate feature and all of the neat AI tricks that it has as well. I also was very hesitant because I’ve heard a lot about the battery life being bad, but the battery on mine is really good, as well as the fingerprint reader.

The only thing that I dislike would be the grip of the phone. I played around with both the pixel 6 and the pro and I would have to say the regular pixel 6 has a better grip, but I love the higher refresh rate and display on the 6 pro.

Edit: Oh and of course, the camera is amazing!

  • I agree as well, I think a vote next time with the members of the community would be better before making a change.

It seemed like the community over on lemmy.world had more posts and subscribers as well. As someone else mentioned, at a time like this when users are moving from Reddit to Lemmy, now users are being asked to move again to another community. I understand its not hard to click subscribe on the new community, but at the same time all of the posts and comments will no longer be displayed here.

So is it worth it solely for GrapheneOS, or is the phone just simply better overall than the OnePlus 9?

I use to put custom roms on my phone a long time ago when I had a HTC and LG phone but that was a couple a years ago, so I’ll have to get myself back up to speed again.

Thanks for the information! I tried installing Linux on my Mac but I was getting partition errors (bought my 2015 Mac used) and after troubleshooting for a couple hours I decided to just go out and buy the t480. I got Pop! OS running on it smoothly and I"m enjoying it so far!

Wow! Thank you for the detailed information. I had some issues trying to install Linux on my Mac so I ended up buying a t480 and I installed Pop! OS on it. Everything at the moment is running smoothly and I’m currently still setting up programs on it that I believe I will be using in my cyber security journey. Thanks again for the detailed explanation, I have a lot to learn!
