  • Scavenger animals are pretty cool and some of the few times where people living in cities get to observe wildlife doing their thing, but comparing scavengers to “workers” vastly underestimates the level of exploitation workers face.

Remember, it is literally illegal in many places for humans to pick expired food out of grocery store dumpsters. Police regularly get called to protect the trash from starving people. We are literally treated as less than raccoons and opossums.

  • It’s honestly hard not to say we as a species don’t deserve whatever happens from this. This was 100% our own choice and we have no one else to blame.

Think about it as a sci-fi film. If an evil alien civilization breeds humans specifically to subject them to a life of constant suffering and experimentation, and some humans they deliberately infected with deadly diseases escape, would anyone in the audience feel bad for that alien race when those diseased humans infect everyone and wipe them out? It would be the most classic poetic comeuppance trope and the humans would be uncritically hailed as the heroes.

Spoiler alert, we’re evil civilization doing that.

  • Just found this project called wireproxy that creates a proxy endpoint for Wireguard. You can then configure Firefox to use that proxy. Haven’t tried it but might be what you’re looking for?

I assume you can also install it on another machine in your home network and point Firefox to the port on that machine if you can’t install to your work computer.

You could also could try running Firefox in a Linux virtual machine if you have or can install virtualization software. KDE and I assume most other desktop environments have one click importers for VPN profiles. This also helps isolate browser fingerprinters which may also be why you’re seeing targeted ads.
