5·7 days agoOff topic: what the heck is that laptop with a circular track pad. Its heretical and I want one for… reasons.
This article is dogshit. Not only do they not say what they turned to (betcha its fuckin brave. It always is with these types.)
Its also a two parter, I am not returning for part two I guarantee you.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Distro Recommendation Discussion (Not a 'What Distro Should I Use?' Post)
2·19 days agoGood ol Nvidia, fucking the pc user until the end.
Anyway, I could never get Waydroid working at reasonable performance so I gave up on it. I could also not have any clue what im doing. That’s a real possibility lol.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Distro Recommendation Discussion (Not a 'What Distro Should I Use?' Post)
53·20 days agoWayland is simply a no go for Nvidia gpus in my experience, I’ve tried three different cards (1060, 2080 and my current 3070) and in all cases with several different distros and each lacked dearly with wayland.
Not saying it wouldn’t work for others but if you move from windows to Linux using your Nvidia card, my opinion is firmly x, it just feels better. Screen jittering, funky mouse tracking and weird rendering issues arised in each of my builds on wayland. I have never had a smooth experience with wayland, and no matter how many people scream at the top their lungs saying its superior on nvidia. I just don’t see it.
As far as terminal usage… err, don’t have to do anything on terminal for almost all uses, I could easily get around it with a ton of apps from discover, an average pc user would never need to use it on an immutable distro. How much does the average user actually use terminal?

4·3 months agoI agree, but at the same time I love the Kubuntu installation slides, they feel so early 2000s PowerPoint.

8·3 months agoI’m unsure this is the proper place for this, since its such a minor, non debilitating problem, I think the Kubuntu forums is the better choice? What do you think?
I always yell my name as I am slapped too.
I had tons of problems with Mint, that one included since I have to secure boot on for work reasons. (Absolutely abysmal let me tell you.) I use Kubuntu, and just run it in insecure mode, haven’t had any problems at all outside the potential security risk I suppose. It’s Ubuntu of course, that could turn you off I understand people aren’t fond of it, but everything works great with very little tinkering needed.
I tried bazzite, but found it lacking since I like to tinker and mess with things, and that just isn’t happening on an immutable distro.
I have a gigabyte motherboard, amd cpu and Nvidia card if that matters.

8·4 months agoNice! That’s what I use. Don’t see alot of others talk about Kubuntu. I enjoy the heck out of it. It doesn’t play games all that well, but that could also be user error as well. Still, so far it’s my favorite distro. Good luck on your journey!

One will hope so.
