Some friends had a cat jump into their car at a rest stop.

They had issues with this kitten and their existing kitten. So they brought it to our house. I took one look at that cat and realized that it was a Maine Coon. Unfortunately it was never going to survive with its skin issues and log fur at my house. So I adopted it out to my mom in another state who could afford more in medical bills. She is very happy living with her half. Maine Coon sister is in communal residency

No change. She is still hissy. She got her first round vaccines today. We have a few weeks before fixing and boosters. Then I need to see if we can find someone that doesn’t mind the hissing and needs a cat that will keep their chest warm for hours and a time.

A lot of the kittens I have worked on have been shipped up to Connecticut and other northern states to places that have this as their rule. I’ve recently had about ten adopted locally at a cat cafe. They have their rules. I don’t make the rules. I tame the cats.

Cats are put in cages and people walk by. Some people have kids. If a kid reaches out to a cat and a cat hisses it’s going to cause reputation problems for the place that is doing adoptions. So the general rule of thumb is that it has to be able to not hiss when a 5-year-old reaches for it.

Pure chocolate brown would be very rare indeed.
Rarity is complicated. If we think of it like collectable trading cards I guess we could think of it like in a box of three thousand cards there would be five orange cats in that whole box and four of them are boys and one is a girl. That’s pretty rare. That box will also contain about 100 tortie cats and one of those will be a boy.

You might need three or four boxes to get a pure chocolate brown cat. Because if you take most chocolate cats and put them in sunlight you are going to see the faint trace of tabby stripes visible on their forehead. And if you can see stripes it’s not pure.

Complicating matters is where you bought that box of cards. If you want to increase the odds of getting more orange cats studies say you want a box that was printed in a rural area. Why? No idea. That’s just how it works.

We have six orange girls total. About one in five orange cats are girls. About one in 3000 cats are an orange girl.
