Obsidian has a huge number of plug-ins, that cover a wide range of uses. I also use Zettel Notes as a quick md file editor and that has the ability to capture pages in markdown to read later. And/or you can use Omnivore.

My point was that cishet men may have it hard to find someone because they are not catching up with progressive and emancipatory values.

I suppose it depends on your requirements. I tried a lot and, finally, Pear fitted the bill. I was happy enough with it to get the Pro version and haven’t looked back since.

Just give it half an hour or so of usage. When I got it up and running, I thought it wasn’t working properly but it was either learning or just getting bedded in as it just seemed to kick in and has worked smoothly since.

To enable languages: Settings > Languages & Layouts. It might just take a bit of usage for all the corrections and suggestions to kick in.

To switch languages or keyboards: Long press the space bar.

If you haven’t enabled number row in Preferences, just long press Q to get 1.

I’d also recommend:

• Downloading the emoji dictionary 👍
• Having a root around in settings
• Reading up on the “hidden” functionality

I switched to this a month or so ago and haven’t looked back. The only thing I miss is the ability to add gifs but that’s not a big deal.

Unlike the author, I don’t think that the internet is dying, but instead entering a new phase that resembles in some aspects the old internet: search has become unreliable and those mega-platforms enshittify themselves to death, so people shift to smaller (often non-commercial) platforms and find new content to follow by the hyperlinks provided by other people. It’s a lot like the internet before Google Search.

It is definitely feeling like this is a trend, we are moving back to more curated ways of sharing information.

The Fediverse feels like a return to the old, open Web before it was captured by Big Tech, just with new bells and whistles attached. With all the enshittification, it seems like it is well-placed to be the solution to the problem. It’s not there yet but it’s a start.
