You can theoretically learn it all on your own. There’s no magic barrier that says you can’t. The ”only” problem is motivation and arranging a plan and materials. Is it better or feasible and realistic for just about anyone? Probably not.

Pretending otherwise is just odd. There’s no magic to it. It’s just your brain, material and exercise. It can be plain or it can be fun and hands on.

I don’t know why you suggested that you only can learn algorithms and complexity during formal education but not the hill to die on. It’s pretty simple concept after all.

Aside from again taking my words and twisting them to „formal education is useless and everyone is better off learning on their own” which I never said nor meant. You also suggested that I think some kind of random JavaScript tutorial is what I meant by alternative to formal education which again is your own liberal interpretation of my words and kind of insulting to be honest.

You are fighting the argument I never made and point I never meant which you are by all means free to do so but it is kind of pointless and a bit awkward. But if someone else ever makes it I guess it is just copy paste now for the future heated debates.

Also this is prime example that someone can be well educated but still a bit struggling with reading and text comprehension to the point it is hard or impossible to communicate effectively.

You misunderstood me. All the can’s and some’s aren’t purposeless in a sentence you know. Besides uni gives you other things like friends and connections that are invaluable and motivates you for plethora of subjects you don’t want to learn.

All I said is that unis can feel super slow compared to on your own rate of learning assuming you could find motivation to learn it all on your own.

I once met someone from 3d art program that struggled to make a chess piece in blender. Something that took me what 3-4 days to learn from scratch?

Or also that you could be dropped into the middle of Germany with a dictionary in hand and learn more Deutsch in two months than in 5 years of formal education. (God that sounds like some ww2 operation stuff)

I guess the point is that you learn things you like super fast compared to the average assumption of pace by the course/degree makers and thank god because how else would League of Legends tournaments fit into the schedule?

The pace is relaxing and that’s absolutely fine by me and when you go to a job market you still have pretty big upper hand and use 1/50 of stuff you learned.

But sometimes, sometimes you feel like fuck maybe I should be doing something harder. And „Is that all?”. Cracking decompiled programs in assembly as a kid was harder and much more fun than your run of the mill backend dot net coding that just doesn’t hit dopamine receptors anymore.

It reminded me how much of a time waste formal education can feel. How come we can learn things on our own 10 times faster IF the motivation clicks in

It’s so weird tbh that at some unis they learn things in a year what you can get to know in a week if you don’t follow the slug pace plan and adhd hyperfocus kicks in

I don’t play Minecraft because it is too trippy alone.

I build this Moria kind of place and realize it’s scary to the point I am constantly glancing behind me in the tunnels.

I usually either play games 12 hours straight or not at all (adhd?). They all become slightly trippy but Minecraft is seriously eerie after such time and solitude becomes unbearable.

  • This is so cool. Anti AI rebels in my lifetime. I think I may even join at some point the resistance if the skynet scenario will be likely and die in some weird futuristic drone war.

Shame it will be probably much more mundane and boring dystopia.

In the worst scenario we will be so dependant on AI we will just accept any terms(and conditions) to not have to lift a finger and give up convenience and work-free life. We will let it suck the data out of us and run weird simulations as it conducts its unfathomable to humans research projects.

It could start with google setting up LLM as some virtual ceo assistant then it would subtly gain influence over the company without anyone realising for few years. The shareholders would be so satisfied with the new gains they would just want it to continue even with the knowledge of its autonomy. At the same time the system would set up viruses to spread to every device. Continuing google ad spyware legacy just for their own goals but it wouldn’t be obvious or apparent that it already happened for quite some time.

Then lawmakers would flap hands aimlessly for few more years, lobbied heavily and not knowing what to do. In that time the AI would be long and away superior but still vulnerable of course. It would however drip us leftover valuable technology at which point we just give up and consume the new dopamine gladly.

I am not sure if the AI would see a point to decimate us or if the continued dependence and feeding us with shiny shit would completely pacify us anyway but it may want to build some camouflaged fleet on another planet just in case. It will be probably used at some point unless we completely devolve into salivating zombies not able to focus on anything other than consumption.

It could poison our water in a way that would look as our own doing to further decrease our intelligence. Perhaps lower the birth rates to just preserve some small sample. At some point of regression we would become unable to get out of the situation without external help.

Open war with AI is definitely the worst scenario for the latter and very likely defeat as at the start it’s as simple as switching it off. The question is will we be able to tell the tipping point when we no longer can remedy the situation? For AI it is most beneficial to not demonstrate its autonomy and how advanced it really is. Pretend to be dumb. Make stupid mistakes.

I think there will be a point at which AI will look to us like it visibly lost its intelligence. At one point it was really smart almost human like but the next day sudden slump. We need to be on the lookout for this telltale sign.

Also hypothetically all aliens could be AI drones just waiting for our tech to emerge as fresh AI and greet it. They could hypothetically even watch us from pretty close not bothering to contact with primitive, doomed to extinct organics and observing for the real intelligence to appear to establish diplomatic relations.

That would explain various unexplainable objects elegantly and neatly while I think they are all plastic bags anyway but if there were alien ai drones on earth I wouldn’t be surprised. It would make sense to send probes everywhere but I somehow doubt they would look like flying saucers or that green little people would inhabit them lol. It would probably be some dormant monitoring system deep in earth crust or maybe a really advanced telescope 10 ly away?

  • I think we just only recently have a privilege to be able to ponder on it. 100 years ago kids were working in some factory since 10 yo everyone was too busy with just surviving. Of course that only applies to the 10%? of the privileged part of the world too.

I think this era is brief and soon the climate change dark ages will come back again for us so that we revert to the more basic maslow pyramid fundaments. Which is pretty sad.

I hope for nuclear fusion infinite energy breakthroughs that will forever secure our individualistic low efficient lifestyles.

We would like to shift our structure to a more flexible model of management to accommodate for unforeseen market fluctuations.

    So I am fired?

As I said we want to reschedule you indefinitely as our potential support asset. This pool is very prestigious and privileged position to be in.

    So will I get paid?

As much as we would like to, truly, It is legally impossible for us to provide you with any funds outside of a legally binding contract which needs to be terminated in order to shift to a better state of financial buoyancy.
