I donate to Mozilla every year. It’s not chump change either. It’s the largest donation I make to an open source project. They are listed as beneficiaries in my will. When I make my donation this year, I’m going to tell them that they risk my next donation going elsewhere if they keep the path they are on.

The Linux kernel is self supported without ads and many distros are able to make releases without ads. A browser that is our direct connection to each other and the world should be no different.

I agree with this. Self-hosting requires the user to understand their network, their software, how it all interacts.

If you provide a hardware product and call it a solution, people are going to expect a turn-key solution like a plug-and-play router.

You’re going to end up supporting a bunch of newbies who, by no fault of their own, can’t tell you an error code in the console let alone whatever UI you give them.

I think a better solution would be a course that walks newbies through self hosting.

I would agree that ublock is good but I have pihole so even on chrome I don’t see ads. It’s part of the reason why I still haven’t moved. If I didn’t have pihole I’d probably already have made the move.

I hate to say it but me too.

Chrome is my daily driver. Firefox Mobile needs major features that only exist in chrome for now.

Tab grouping is the biggest one. But if I could have multiple profiles on Firefox like I can on desktop I’d move today.

I’ll admit I kind of typed this without thinking it through. In a secured site, the password would be hashed and salted before storing in the database.

Depending on where you’re doing the hashing, long strings might still slow you down. That being said, from a security standpoint, any gain in entropy by adding characters would be negligible past a certain point. I don’t remember what that number is but it certainly isn’t in the thousands.
