Think about it. Right now, windows is a fucking hog of an OS. It takes up huge space, gas huge overhead, and needs huge amounts of ram. Ram and storage are expensive as hell right now.

Linux can run well on a laptop on decade old tech (One of my old laptops is literally from 2016 and runs Linux mint butter smooth).

So by promoting Linux, HP can sell a laptop with less ram and less storage, that doesn’t run like shit. Saves them loads of money. They may not give a flying fuck about Linux. This still helps their bottom line.

I set mine to go to 85% and then pass through charge. A heavy use day and I’ll go from 85 in the morning to like 25% at night.

Red magic claims 80w wireless charging, but I haven’t seen anything that will do over 40w, and that sounded like a spaceship to keep it cool. Lol.

Maybe lower cycle life. I’ve had my RM 11 pro for like 5 months and accubattery hasn’t been charting me a very big decline yet. Of course, since it started at 7,500mah, it can lose a lot of capacity before it drops down to the 5,000mah range most phones new come with. I’ll have the same issue as with Samsung flagships, though. Can’t buy a new replacement OEM battery to save my life.

Here I’ve had my 1TB 24GB red magic 11 pro with silicon carbon battery in the US for like 5 months now. Water cooled (gimmicky), air cooled (legit), and better performance with a bigger battery than anything Samsung will put out this year. $1000 and came with an 80watt charging block.

My last cat had one of those. Can confirm. She loved it.

I’m in the US. Not once have I seen or even heard of this happening before.

I’m guessing it’s something only being done to the EU when trying to look at Amazon from other countries, or just when looking at other Amazon’s outside your own country.

You don’t know what jobs they cut. It was likely service offices and phone help and secretaries and maintenance people and commissioned sales people and such. They couldn’t have cut 30,000 programmers and hardware engineers.

No one deserves that much money and I’m not arguing in favor of what they did. I’m just pointing out that getting rid of that many people is way, way, more than $30,000,000 on a payroll.

I assume most of the layoffs were in support roles and not the main coders or hardware engineers. I assume it was a lot of secretaries and intern level stuff and phone rep and sales people supplemented by commissions and cleaning crew and maintenance jobs. Probably shut down some service offices too.

As to the “flow” thing, it’s an extra 2 warnings and a mandatory 24 hour waiting period after you select to install apks from unknown sources. It can be permanently enabled, so the 24 hour wait will be a one and done thing if you choose the indefinite option. Googles stated reasoning for this is to prevent non tech people from falling for scam calls or messages using scare tactics like “your bank transfered out your savings” or whatever made to get people to panic and follow whatever commands they’re told to do and install before having time to speak to a family member or contact their bank or card company themselves.

For what it’s worth, I think that 24 hour part of it would prevent some people from getting scammed. There’s a lot of naive people who still fall for stuff like that.

My issue is that I believe this is just a stepping stone to make it even harder or impossible to side load in the future. Like, a year or so later or whenever Google thinks they can get away with it they’ll try removing the option to permanently allow side loading. So right now it will just be a few extra clicks and a 24 hour wait one time, but where will they move the bar next?

I been on Samsung since the Note 2. Up until a few months ago when * decided it was time to let go of my Note 20 ultra and all the Samsung phones since then have kinda sucked.

Now I’m using a Red Magic 11 Pro. 7500mah silicon carbon battery is fantastic, and so is the phone, with its fan, liquid cooling (95% looks and not function), and stupid large 24GB of ram. Phone has been great so far.

My estimated screen on time from accubattery pro at 80% charged (I have it set to stop at 80%) is 15 1\2 hours.

Screw Samsung sitting on their hands for the past decade to do almost nothing but raise prices.

RM Phone isn’t all roses though. Camera is only OK, but the back being 100% flat is awesome. No microsd slot. Why I got the 1TB version. Bootloader is locked down and software updates don’t last very many years.

But you know what? It looks cool and I don’t have to charge it in the middle of the day. If the battery does go tits up, I won’t have a problem taking it apart (done phone repairs for myself and others for decades) and replacing the battery. It was nearly impossible to get a new and genuine OEM battery for my n20U when I replaced its battery. Hoping it won’t be such a pita to get a genuine one from red magic, but not holding my breath.

Still surprised it wasn’t programmed to brick itself after so many miles by gps without connecting.
