Seeing MLs post anti-left stuff like this makes me think of Monsignor Wicks from Wake Up Dead Man. Alienating the out-group to strengthen the bonds of the in-group.

HELL YEAH <3

I think ML isn’t for me but @Cowbee has been super patient in answering my questions and I’d love to consider them a friend
What’s your (or MLs in general) definition of “a liberal”? Real question, genuinely curious. The people (Americans) I know who would call themselves “liberal” don’t and wouldn’t support a “blood for oil” war like this. The liberals I knew didn’t support the Iraq invasion in the 2000s and won’t support Venezuela now.
It seems - and please correct me if I’m wrong - that MLs use the term “liberal” very broadly, even in a way that would include American Republicans and MAGA devotees. As in, anyone who lives (whether or not they like it) under a capitalist regime, like a Western neo-liberal. Or even, it seems like MLs call anyone who isn’t as far “left” as they are liberal.
Is there some kind of hypocrisy or irony subtext I’m missing? I don’t understand why this is a juxtaposition
It’s so weird that MLs post on a platform specifically designed to be federated and didn’t expect any friction for posting non-mainstream opinions.
It’s doubly weird that they lash out instead of using the opportunity to evangelize.
I’m more and more convinced that the consumption of political theory is more about tribalism than justice. Maybe justice only comes from tribalism…

Oh, so boomer-tier memes are praxis lol. Gonna hit me with a Minion meme next?

Upvote-farming choir-preaching tribeslop garbage. Is this praxis?

I looked more closely and their heads have the same shading as the dots on the card back. OP posted an MtG meme and didn’t even realize it lol

This reminds me of a heuristic I heard about once, about “punching up” and “punching down”. I heard about it used in a stand-up comedy context but it seems to make sense in a lit of other places as well. Punching down almost always seems unjust, punching up almost always seems just.

Yeah I saw that in your bio. Thanks for building that 😊 Life’s been stressful lately but it’s on my nightstand

Well, as someone who hasn’t Read Theory, the last line in the meme seems to disdain use of violence in a very general way. It was just confusing, but I see now that it’s just not well worded

If the bourgeoisie turn to violence and terror during crises, how is that different from revolutionaries removing the bourgeoisie from power? I used to identify as an American Democrat but I’m super frustrated with their insistence on useless, vapid displays of “resistance”.

North Korea invaded South Korea knowing that South Korea had the US and UN as allies. North Korea almost won at the outset too.
I’m just looking at Wikipedia, that’s my go-to for better or for worse. Do you have an alternative source that I could look at that mentions genocide?

So I’m not in tune to the same news you are, I guess… when did the US invade North Korea?
Please don’t be snarky. I’m asking in good faith, I’m genuinely curious and trying to be open-minded.

I will, got some theory on my reading list as well :)

Listen, random people on the internet try to shame me all the time. It happens even when I don’t interact. But it’s no indication if a viewpoint is “correct” or whatever.
Also, agreeing with you about genocides or the events in certain parts of the world or anything is completely separate from supporting you. MLs seem to think that they’re one in the same, that anyone who doesn’t agree 100% with them are enemies. Even if I did agree with you, black-and-white broad-stroke insults make people not want to work with you.

Just want to say thank you for understanding :) I absolutely agree about the genocide in Gaza and any invented “white genocide.” But with something like Xinjiang, I don’t think I can make a call about it, you know? I appreciate your understanding that it’s not as clear-cut to everyone about what’s going on in the world. It doesn’t necessarily make me agree or disagree with you, but it absolutely makes want more to be an ally of yours.

I didn’t make my point clear. I don’t have any strong opinions on these matters I brought up, outside “genocide is bad” and other basic ethics. I’m admitting I don’t know much about them, not due to apathy but due to… just information fucking overload. It’s absurd to equate me with white supremacists just because I can’t keep up with everything going on in the world to exacting detail.
Good point. Posted that between combat turns in D&D 😓 it’s anti-Lemmy, not anti-left.
