Wrong attitude. The author should do the work at his end, once, to provide the content in a format designed for the maximum target audience. Do not expect the audience to do the author’s work for him. They won’t.

Wrong attitude, with that logic every post should use the absolute simplest vocabulary. The author shouldn’t expect everyone to use a translator, but those people can just scroll past. It’s not up to the author to write for everyone.

Imagine que chacun écrive dans sa langue, et que le programme hôte soit chargé de la traduction des messages. À titre personnel j’aime bien le concept, parce que j’ai l’impression que ça irait contre la tendance à l’uniformisation des échanges sur le net (qui sont par défaut souvent en anglais, en tout cas sur le web occidental). T’en penses quoi? J’ai utilisé deepL pour traduire ton message.

Also, French is a widely spoken language around the world, so I doubt so few others understood that. I certainly did.
For Internet presence, it’s just France and Quebec. How many of these 76 millions are Internet users? How many of those are open source enthusiasts? How many of those know enough about local LLMs in Firefox? All of these would fit in a small room.
Belgium and Switzerland have French-speaking regions too and French is spoken by many Africans too, though you are right those aren’t as widely connected to the Internet.
Lemmy is multi language, if the post selected french, it will only be shown to french speaking users
