One of my favourite books as a child was The Rough Guide 2.0: The Internet and World Wide Web. It’s crazy how much has changed in 27 years and I hope this post helps you take a trip down memory lane. Or if you weren’t around in 1996 it provides a glimpse of what the emergent days (dial-up days) of the internet were like.
The internet felt so different until MySpace took over. I was still young, but I remember running like 3 Geocities sites, one that got fairly popular, and the social media came along and ended everything about the old internet.
My first modem was 33,600 bps
Heh. 300bps for me, and I didn’t have any storage for my Vic-20, so had to retype in the terminal software from the back of the modem manual every time I turned the computer on. Those were the good old days. 🤣
