I don’t even see these as equivalent.

They’re making a profit and don’t actually need to be doing this at all. Worst case scenario for them is they end up in your current scenario.

You’re struggling to pay rent and absolutely need a job.

Nobody asked your permission to scoop up all the valuable spots and natural resources before you were born. You don’t owe honesty to someone you can’t refuse.
