It honestly seems like these are questions that don’t need asking.

You’ve provided no context about what you like and don’t like, so you won’t get any kind of a personalised response.

What are you expecting to get out of asking this as a question, that you don’t get by simply going to Rotten Tomatoes?

This would be a waste of commenters’ time, and that’s why it’s being downvoted.

Exactly. And I’d say if someone bothers to post that question, they are clearly interested in it. So why not watch an episode or two and see if you like it? It’s not exactly a life-changing decision.

Personally, I’d much rather form my own opinion regarding shows, instead of relying on the opinion of others. I’ve hated shows that others loved and loved shows that others hated.

That’s a bit rough, but here’s my honest answer.

Everything is worth watching. Find out if you like it. If you don’t, that isn’t wasted time, that’s you defining your taste.

There’s this strange idea that engaging with things we don’t like is somehow a bad thing, but the net result is that we lose the ability to discern our own tastes if we only reference a consensus of others.

Asking crowds is asking for a consensus, an average. You are not average, you are exceptional and specific.

Yes, your time is precious, but you owe it to yourself to use that time to figure out who you are.

Perhaps, though, there is a use to phrasing questions like “I really enjoyed X, what else would you recommend?”. That gives you agency if directing your consumption of media, and art.

I doubt that. Posts are supposed to encourage discussion. It’s a rule that’s fairly strictly moderated in most communities.

A yes or no question does not do that, it’s surprising the posts aren’t even removed outright.

Sigh, the sub has no description. Each person that visits has a different opinion on what should be there since there’s no official take.

Try doing stuff like “Fargo season 5 discussion thread” and then just say you thought it was disappointing. You’ll get a lot of replies

    [checks OPs recent post/comment history]

Maybe I’m a dumb dumb but why are all your posts being downvoted? It’s not an incorrect sub issue, so is it a tone issue e.g saying “don’t downvote” is an invitation to?

Did you anger the village witch or somesuch?

That’s unfortunate. Seems merely a tad gravely stupid to downvote one of 4 posts per day. I found a post on a breaking bad sublemmy asking why people liked it and it was also downvoted to hell. Internet’s gonna internet.

So he’s hoping to get these questions answered and your suggestion is he should make his own entire community to have those questions answered? Like… Does the user base instantly show up? Because I’m guessing he doesn’t want to wait a very long time to get these questions answered?

I stand corrected. Based on the post title I was thinking that he wanted his own rules. But reading his post again he might actually be trying to get answers.
